Very nice, comfortable, and laid-back ambience. Food is very good. Attractive and subdued decor with sophisticated piano on weekends.

Very disappointed. Wait staff seemed to ignore us (wife, sister-in-law and me) and the food was not very good.

My boyfriend and I went to Stables for our one year anniversary. We had such a great experience! The food was fantastic and so was the service! Honesty, I couldn't have asked for a better place to go for our anniversary. Definitely worth the visit!

Incredible meal, amazing service, and delightful ambiance! What more could you want? We ordered the prime rib and the scallops. The wedge salad was one of the best ever; beef was impeccably seasoned; scallops large and grilled to perfection; the fresh vegetables were tender crisp and delicious; the extensive wine list offered a wide range of options both by the glass and bottle. The historic charm of the Stables and the quality of the service provided by our server (Tim) made for a perfect evening. When we return to Terre Haute we will certainly dine at the Stables again! This is a very popular place and reservations are strongly recommended.

I dined at Stables with a friend on a recent Monday evening. Very unprepossessing exterior. Do not hesitate. Inside the front door, you will be stunned by the magnificent staircase and massive chandelier. This is a historic building complete with original stalls and ironwork. You can dine the small nook between floors, in a private stall, or upstairs. The place is a splendid restoration. Our server took a great deal of time with us but did not over-serve. The wedge lettuce had a unique blue cheese dressing with balsamic glaze. The grilled fresh vegetables were fresh broccoli, cauliflower, sweet peppers, onions, snap peas, and zucchini and were cooked al dente. I ordered the filet au poivre and it came perfectly cooked and flavorful. My companion had garlic cheddar mashed potatoes and reported they were delicious. The crowning glory of the meal was the very cinnamon-y bread pudding with a generous amount of whisky sauce. We were delighted. It surpasses St. Elmo's in Indianapolis for value, service, and atmosphere.
