Wonderful venue--saw a very well done community theater play there. Lovely restored opera house, lots of vintage charm and comfortable seats as well

This was our first time here and didn't really know what we were getting ourselves into. We had a blast. The theater is on the smaller size which also means there really isn't a bad seat in the house. The staff was excellent and very friendly. The performance was absolutely wonderful and well acted. They use more talent here and less digital. I prefer that. Seating wise it would help if we were taller because there is not a lot of angle in this theater but it wasn't bad. For the price its hard to beat. It you drove to chicago you would have just paid for your parking or sat in the last row. We enjoyed it and plan on coming back often.

An opportunity for us to go back in time to a place where digital technology wasn't necessary to create a lovely voice. Striking and memorable experience!

Historic venue for community theater, performances, and art movies. Historic theater, valuable community asset, but needs a little upkeep. Remember, this place is a 19th century venue, so don't be disappointed by small size and simple decor. This place was a palace in the 1800's.

The famous John Philip Sousa brought his band here four times and in the hundred years since, almost nothing has changed in this building except for updated bathrooms. With the opera boxes in the front, it kind of has the feel of a smaller version of Washington DC's Ford Theater. There is a wide variety of plays and musical events that are held throughout the year. Favorite events include the free Memorial Day concert presented by the Valparaiso Community Band and concerts by the professional Windiana concert band. The musicals and plays are put on by enthusiastic local actors who are joyful to be on a stage. This is entertainment like it was in a totally different era, before 3-D movies and television. Going to an event here is like stepping into a cultural time machine.
