My husband and I stayed here for our 6 year wedding anniversary. We had never been to a bed and breakfast so we had no idea what to expect. We were greeted by Naomi and she was amazing at showing us around. The food is amazing I ate things I never though I would like. Chris is amazing with her stories the rooms were awesome and the antiques were amazing to look at. This is the first time my husband and I went somewhere to stay for a weekend and we actually stayed and didn't want to leave to go shopping etc. We had the most relaxing time and enjoyed it so much we are going back in a few weeks for another weekend.

Room Tip: All the rooms are amazing you can't go wrong with any you choose. Look at pictures on website an...

My husband and I did the murder mystery dinner last weekend with another couple and had a great time! The mansion was beautiful and accomodations were top notch! Naomi and Kris(the owner) were so very nice and did a great job! The food was terrific and place settings were gorgeous! Kris told us her story and the story of the house after breakfast and it was fascinating! We hope to return to do it again soon!!!

We went to Mont Rest with family and friends and had ta ball! We stayed in the three rooms unattached to the main house and it was the perfect set up for us. The room was a bit small but charming and had a fireplace and jaccuzi. The Great Gatsby themed dinner was a hoot. The 10 course dinner was excellent and dressing up for it was so much fun. The town of Bellevue is charming with many shops to browse through. Go to the state park to see a beautiful view of the Mississippi river. It's breathtaking! I'm anxious to go back for another weekend.

Positives: The staff was very enthusiastic and seemed to enjoy playing different roles, the food was tasty (not gourmet) and the portions were adequate, the room was comfortable and in general the entire place was welcoming.
Negatives: The dinner dishes were chipped and cracked, the balcony that was to look onto a "wooded area" had a view of an embankment with old maintenance ladders on it with broken paving brick and garbage beneath, the building was unkempt and in desperate need of paint and repair, the water to the bath was shut off and had to manually turn the valve on/off due to the faucet leaking so badly, and the worst part of it all was the following morning during the "history" of Mont Rest the hostess decided to go off on an immigration tangent without knowing squat of what she was saying. She began with how an immigrant changed his name to "Gibson" to become more American and started an appliance company in Bellevue and how great our country is because of our "melting pot" and how immigrants make us strong. All things I agree with 100%. Then she started with how it seems it is always the last persons off the boat that everyone hates and how we should allow those crossing our southern border to stay and we should welcome them. This is where she has lost her mind. First, the immigrants that came "off the boats" did so legally and then tried to assimilate to become American citizens. The criminals that cross our southern border are not legal nor do they try to assimilate, rather they take down American flags and replace with mexican flags. This is the exact opposite of what she was citing in her previous statements, yet that is how the liberal mind works. Can only see their narrow perspective of the world and never how it may actually affect society as a whole.
In closing: I may attend another murder mystery there, I simply would not try to engage the hostess as I know how she thinks. If you can tolerate the liberal diatribe you may actually have an good time.

Booked the Mont Rest Inn and Murder Mystery for a Summer family get together in June 2014. First item to note- the parking lot needs to be repaired. Second there were a lot of folks that attended that evenings Murder Mystery and it seemed as they were very understaffed for such a large group and made the Murder Mystery hard to follow figure anything out. Third- the alcoholic beverages are NOT included in the price (should be) and it's very confusing to the guests as to what is available to them in the kitchen and what is not! Fourth- the food was OK at best, not the greatest meal I've ever had. Fifth- the owner of the Inn was a little arrogant and boastful at the next morning's breakfast. She touted her wealth and hijacked the conversation and whole meal! However, the room was very comfortable and tastefully themed. The bed we had was the best part of this whole experience with the exception of being surrounded by family! Word of advice: The hotel and Murder Mystery package is VERY overpriced and you'd be better off playing a game of Clue at home.

Room Tip: Wife and I spent the night in the Carriage House. It was off the main house, which was fine with us...

We needed a short break from the home chaos, and had a four day weekend available to us. We chose the Mont Rest for the murder mystery dinner. We arrived a few minutes before the 3:30 p.m. check in time, but that was not an issue to them at all. We were shown around by Ralph, the owner's husband, and then taken to our room. I should add that the room we requested was not available, so they upgraded us to the Boardwalk Suite at the same lower price as the room we had requested. The ambiance in the room was perfect. The first night there we took just wandered around the town, checking out some of the little shops before returning to our room. Saturday morning we had what I consider the best breakfast I've ever had outside of home. Saturday night we participated in the murder mystery dinner, which is an interactive event. We were given roles to play, costumes to fit our characters (Gladys Gotrocks is a real trip!) and then began the dinner, which was excellent. Sunday morning was an equally excellent breakfast which was enjoyed by all of us from the murder mystery of the night before. The town itself had enough attractions to occupy us during the day on Sunday, and in the afternoon we enjoyed drinks and reading on the roof top deck area. All in all it was an enjoyable experience that we are looking forward to doing again.
