We found this hotel on a cross-country road-trip in May. I actually picked this hotel because I was hungry and this is right next door to a Chilis! We ordered carry-out and had dinner in our room - very convenient and a nice way to unwind after a long day of driving. The lodge feeling is all aroud you - but works for this hotel.
While we had an overall good experience - there was one unusual encounter at check-in:
We travel with our very small chihuahua and always look for pet-friendly hotels. This hotel is pet-friendly, however the front desk clerk advised us that we could NOT use the front entry to bring our pet into the hotel. What an unusual request that they did not want me to tuck an eight pound chihuahua under my arm to bring into the hotel - they wanted me to use the "back door." I didn't get the rule of going through the back door ... a pretty strange request.

I really liked this hotel. The pool and hot-tub are first class. The kids will like spending time here. The rooms make you feel like your in Northern Minnesota at a lodge. Nice and courtious staff. Free drinks. What more could you want? (Besides the lake view of a lodge?)

We stay at the Widlwood often for sports tournaments and we're never disappointed. The rooms are spacious, clean and unusually well lit for a hotel. The swimming pool and workout room are both smaller, but more than adequate. The staff is always very helpful and the free breakfast is good.

Some people don't like the lodge decorating scheme, but I love it. Centrally located and many restaurants and stores are nearby.

This hotel was the location for our baseball team this year. It was a beautiful facility and our room was big and roomy. We stayed in a room with 2 double beds. A big chair, desk and dresser. We had plenty of room. The pool was also great for the kids. The morning breakfast had waffles, hot oatmeal, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, rolls, bagels, Danishes and dry cereal. Nice place and I would recommend it to anyone.

Booked 2 nights at the Wildwood Lodge as it was midway between our Saturday evening. Staff was friendly, breakfast was OK, other than the bananas that were way too ripe. Rooms were very comfortable. The major issue we had was with the King Size bed arrangement in the rooms. The is the first hotel we've ever stayed in that the bed was not accessible from both sides. The bed was pushed up against the wall on one side and whomever was sleeping on the side had to crawl over the bed to get to that side. Have no idea of how the room designer came up with that concept, but not a good arrangement at all. Maybe the beds with Queen size are OK, but the King BR are not. Fortunately, we are still limber enough to crawl.

There were some kids running up and down the halls late at night, plus the Mgmt did not enforce their own rules on the times when children could be in the pool.

Even though the hotel is not far from the interstate, traffic noise was not at all noticeable.

.

Room Tip: Ask about the bed access before you book a room. For all we know the Queen beds are pushed up again...

Always have our family Christmas in January ... and picked this as our gathering location this year. Lodge worked with us on group pricing which was appreciated. We did not book a party room in advance, but once on site realized there was no space large enough for us to congregate without disturbing other guests. The staff made us a great deal on a party room we used all weekend and had it set up in no time. Biggest issue was probably the size of the breakfast area, it was pretty crowded both Sat & Sun morning. Ice storm hit Sat night and the staff did an excellent job of getting salt on the sidewalks and parking lot.

I had won an overnight stay at this hotel but would definitely visit here again. Lots of parking, staff were friendly, rooms were large and very clean. TV was huge with a great selection of channels. The bathroom had a walk-in shower with a built-in seat, no tub but that was not a problem for us at all. There was a blow dryer and lighted makeup mirror and a handy shampoo, conditioner and shower gel dispenser in the shower. The décor in both the room and throughout the hotel was attractive with a homey, comfortable atmosphere. The lobby had a fireplace and was full of large round tables where I believe breakfast is served in the mornings. We did not take advantage of the breakfast but many guests were making good use of the tables for gathering around throughout the day and evening. The walls/ceilings did seem a little thin, it was easy to hear other guests moving around in their rooms which might pose a problem if you have noisy neighbors but we didn't have any real problem it. I believe there was also a pool however we did not take advantage of it.
