My wife and I had a very nice dinner at Hunan on our recent trip to Coralville. We walked in around 7 on a Wednesday evening and were amazed that the restaurant was empty. We wondered if this was a poor choice but decided to stay.
We ordered hot and sour soup, we always do, it is never the same at any two places. My wife ordered the Hunan pork and I ordered the spicy chicken and shrimp stir fry.
We were disappointed with the soup, it had nice flavor but had a sweet component that seemed to build the more we ate. We love hot and sour soup, but it should not be sweet.
My wife really loved the Hunan pork for the nice big slices of pork and wonderful veggies. I loved my chicken and shrimp dish, nice sized shrimp, great chunks of chicken and a delicious sauce. While the dish was nicely seasoned, calling it spicy was a bit of a stretch.
Service was excellent and very attentive. One other customer came in while we were there, so the waitress was not overly busy.
We will go back, possibly for lunch next time.
Oh, almost forgot, the restaurant itself is lovely. They've spent a bunch on quality furnishings.
