“Disappointing visit”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

We have spent many nights in this hotel at different times. This one may have been our last. The hotel feels like the management is scrimping on maintenance. Or maybe it was just the room we had. We were in a room that looked out at the awning over the entrance of the hotel. There was a small gap to the drive-through. Any time someone stood outside and talked, it was amplified into the room, even if the curtains were closed. One night, some individuals carried on an animated discussion from midnight to 3 AM. In the morning, when anyone was outside loading their cars, we felt as if they were next to us. We could also hear the guests in the room above us when they walked around their room. The exhaust fan in the bathroom appeared to be inoperable (no fan noise or air flow). A new air conditioning unit had been installed poorly. We reported a large active spider web on one side of the AC unit the first day we were there. It was not removed during our stay. The double-pane windows had moisture between the panes. One of the two elevators felt as if the doors wouldn't open when it reached its floor. Something on the outside of the room rattled in the wind constantly.

The entrance foyer and breakfast areas were well-kept, and the staff was very helpful (except when reporting a spider web). The breakfast bar was one of the best we have seen at a Hampton Inn. However, we left the hotel much more tired than when we arrived.

Room Tip: Don't stay in 305 or 307.

Convenient location off of I-80. Rooms had undergone updates, but had still signs of its previous life. Most comfortable bed, loved the pillows. Clean and comfortable, definitely good enough .
Breakfast was a nice variety for all and plenty healthy options.

We were in town for a family wedding. We had hilton honor points to use so thought we could do this. It's 30,000 points a night for this run down hotel! The room is only a king studio (king bed with sofa sleeper) and very out of date. I would have rather kept our points for a stay at a much nicer hotel. It's only stocked for 2 guests even with a sleeper sofa. Rooms are rather small. Pool is a bit chilly for an infant to swim. Breakfast area was very small and congested. Hotel staff was nice but to me that doesn't make up for the other flaws. It's convenient off the interstate and up the road from the university. Won't be staying at this overpriced run down hotel again. I'll go down the street to the marriott.

Dear SwedishPrincess14,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I'm sorry to hear that your recent stay with us didn't meet your expectations. We are happy to upgrade our frequent HIlton Honors members from rooms with two Queen sized beds to a larger King sized room whenever possible. We hope you'll stay with us again to give us the chance to improve your experience.

I look forward to hearing your response.

We stayed here on a Saturday night in May. Our room was a King Studio (king with sofa bed.) Chose it because it was cheaper than the 2 Queen beds, that was my mistake. Sofa bed was horribly uncomfortable and room was only stocked for 2 guests. My husband went down to the front door desk to get more towels becasuse there were not enough.
The good points: the hotel is clean and the staff friendly.
The bad points: there was a little league team/teams booked there the same night. They took over the pool area for a pizza party and it was so crowded my daughter didn't get to use the pool at all. They had it occupied the whole night. This little league also took over the breakfast area in the morning so much so that there was no where to sit and we couldn't even get to the food without a long wait in line. So we didn't eat, left and grabbed breakfast elsewhere.
Now I realize that the hotel can't control the groups that stay there but unfortunately that did have a huge influence on our experiences.
Most likely would give the hotel another chance and cross my fingers there would be no little leagues staying there.

Room Tip: King studio with sofa bed was a corner room which was great. Roomy for two people or a couple with s...

We had to ask to change rooms because the door between our room and the one next door did not lock. The rooms look tired and the comforters on the bed were lumpy. Just need to be replaced. There was a nice selection of breakfast items and all were good.

Steve at the front desk was great. The rooms were quiet & the entire hotel had a fresh smell. The only thing that could use improvement was the workout room. It was a bit small & humid since it's right next to the pool.

Dear AA M,

Thank you so much for your positive feedback! I am happy to hear that Steve took great care of you during your stay. These Iowa summers can be quite overwhelming but we keep the AC cranked on high to combat the humidity! :) Thank you again for choosing to stay with us and I look forward to your return!

Good hotel near the highway (I80) for Univ of Iowa visits. Good clean rooms with comfortable beds, great comp. breakfast; miniature pool for the kids; nice neighborhood to walk around especially the nearby fireman's memorial with world trade center beam. Easy access to Iowa Power Plant Restaurant for a great brunch. Pretty price for this graduation weekend.

Room Tip: Parking was tight so a room on the bottom floor may be close to the side entrance.
