“Charming and comfortable boutique hotel with lots to offer”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

Sweet, comfortable hotel with character in downtown Davenport. Check in was quick and friendly. The lobby is traditional and comfortable with free local paper, the WSJ, and even bowls of fresh fruit. The room was large, minimalist in design and tasteful. Comfortable bed, super clean bathroom with separate shower and tub. We had a corner room, which had two windows for plenty of sunlight. Large closet, refrigerator, microwave. The hotel has a spa (next time for sure,) barbershop, small gift store, attached bowling alley ($35 an hour) and a coffee shop. We enjoyed fantastic cocktails and bar menu items (a grouper sandwich in Iowa!) in the lobby bar/bistro. A special treat was the daily popcorn with our favorite being the cinnamon sugar. The hotel has an indoor pool which was nice and quiet in the morning, with a comfortable outdoor lounge for fresh air. We stayed over a weekend which likely explained why the pool was loud with lots of little kids far too late into the evening, so if you plan to swim, go early. The hotel has free parking and is a quick walk to downtown attractions. Our local friends told us President Obama has stayed here twice, so.....you know it's that good!

The renovations are amazing and the staff if very friendly and helpful as many have said in other reviews. The only reason I had to hold back on the rating is the restaurant waitress during lunchtime. She was poorly trained by the restaurant management staff - shame on them. She didn't really know the menu or the way some dishes are prepared. She was too busy on her cell phone to refill the water at our table and we were the only ones in the restaurant. We got a free drink coupon for a glass of wine each but its a cheap Pinot Grigio or Cabernet - no other choices - not a good impression for a classy hotel. Not sure why they skimp on that opportunity to make a great impression. My suggestion to the owners - fire the restaurant manager. Oh, yea, we had to send our first wine glass back, during the lunch, because it had been opened too long and if the poorly trained waitress had "nosed" the wine - she'd have smelled the obvious vinegar odor and not served it to us. We ate out at dinner rather than risk poor service and food at dinner. My guess is the restaurant is a money loser for this hotel. If they get the restaurant figured out - this would be a top notch place to spend multiple nights in the Quad Cities. Room access in the elevator is awkward and we had to help several people figure it out so they could get to their room.

Our family had a wonderful time at the Hotel Blackhawk. The lobby is beautiful and offers plenty of areas to unwind. However, we arrived during the middle of a wedding reception so it was a bit awkward checking in among the mingling of wedding guests. The room was small but the beds were comfortable and decor was chic. Valet parking was complimentary which was nice and the location of the hotel is perfect to walk to local restaurants or the ballpark. Service was phenomenal throughout and the father's day brunch was amazing. We would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get river view if possible.

I had bad service while eating at their restaurant and afterwards the food manager addressed my issue and provided a generous resolution because she comped our meal and breakfast the next morning. After that she even covered the tip I wanted to provide my waiter. They never argued; just heard my complaint and exceeded my expectations.

It's a beautiful hotel and I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Room Tip: Away from the main rd so you don't hear the traffic

We stayed one night at the Hotel Blackhawk using our Marriott Points, very glad we did! Lobby area is very nice, and the front staff was incredibly friendly. Eighth floor room was a blend of old style and newer furnishings with a good view of the river. Pool and spa available on the third floor. Breakfast at the Bix in the lobby was nice. We will be staying here when we visit Davenport again.

We only stayed one night, (May 4-5) but this place is great. Historic architecture, modern luxurious rooms--marble baths, robes, etc., friendly staff. We only had breakfast in the bistro off the lobby, but it was great. Downtown Davenport is up and coming, and while restaurants are sparse as you get away from the casino, you can still find places to eat. We ate in a local Itialina place that was really good.

Spent a lovely night at this gem in Davenport, Iowa. What a pleasant surprise from the marble lobby and martini bar to the beautifully decorated rooms. Soft hues of Grey mixed with black and white offer elegance and taste. Nice bathroom with both soaking tub and large glass shower. My husband called it a spa inside a hotel room. Give this place a try
