Decorah Highpoint- Pine Creek Cabins & Campground
Reviewed 5 September 2011

Nice winery and quaint country golf course nearby. Great place for the outdoor enthusiasts - canoeing, tubing, and fishing close by. Well-kept cabin or camping accommodations with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The new owners (Steve and Alison) are very gracious and helpful!

We had 4 women on our girls' weekend, and 4 kids under age 3!
We stayed in the largest cabin (sleeps 16). It was spacious and cozy, and seems brand-new. It was immaculately clean and there wasn't a bug in sight! The beds were comfy, the bedding smelled fresh and the quilts were nice and warm. Loved the wood burning stove, and the abundance of windows. No strange or musty smells (the cabin actually had a cedar smell). The furniture was comfy and simple. The kitchen small, but there was a folding table with extra chairs on the lower level and a picnic table on the deck and out by the fire pit.

The views are AMAZING. The pics of the views on their website are the actual views from the cabins and campground. The entire huge property is at the top of a large, mountain-sized "hill", and the wrap around deck faced the most grand of the views. Actually, all the cabins and campsites seem to be placed so that everyone can see the view at its best! We all lived outside during the day and we adults loved drinking morning coffee on the wrap-around porch. On the last night, as we sat around the camp fire, we watched a small herd of deer graze in the camp ground's clearing just 100 feet or so away!

The 2 oldest kids (ages 18mo and 2yrs) loved the "park" (playground) and we all loved running barefoot around the nicely mown acreage! The entire property is bordered by chest-high, thick prairie grasses, which served as a great fence for the little ones!

The property is miles from the nearest little convenience store (about 10 minutes away), and a bit farther from Decorah - the nearest town. This is exactly what we wanted! But if you're looking to walk to shops and restaurants, this probably isn't the place! (The drive always went quickly due to the awesome scenery!)

The cabin wasn't very sound-proof, but there's a powerful fan/air conditioning unit at the top floor that helped to dampen noise during baby naps from clinking dishes and infant cries. We also each brought a box fan, and there are 4 private bedrooms, so that was also helpful.

We ended the trip in Decorah, which is trendy and modern, but still holds one to it's quaint Norwegian roots. We ate at the Angry Pickle deli (fabulous, cheap, and gourmet quality!), and toured the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum (had more exhibits than I thought it would! Great place with wonderful historic artifacts!).

We all agree that this is definitely a hidden treasure! And we WILL be returning as soon as we can!!
