Attraction details
Owner description: Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists. The 4.4 Acre park, located within a major crossroads of the urban grid, creates a pedestrian friendly entranceway to downtown Des Moines. This accessible setting, coupled with the skilled landscape design and caliber of the art, makes it unlike any other sculpture park in the United States. The Pappajohns' contribution of 28 works for the park is the most significant donation of artwork ever made to the Des Moines Art Center.

I liked that the sculptures weren't too abstract where I had no clue what they were. My favorite was the man made up all of letters of the alphabet!

If you go to Des Moines this is one of your first stops. Check out the Capitol, River Walk, and other stuff downtown too. The sculpture park has helped put Des Moines on the world's Art map. Tours are available or just wing it on your own. Either way this thing is amazing and memorable.

This offers great green space for the downtown area. Sculptures are unique, but I wish there were more to enjoy.

We ended up at a rose garden due to the gps and we were so confused. Once we finally arrived, it was an interesting experience. The kids were confused at what they were looking at, at times, but that was the fun of it. They made up their own stories of what they were viewing. It was a great little side trip that allowed everyone to walk around. We would visit again.

This is a place where you can have enjoy a walk around. We only spenr around 20 minutes to see all these sculptures (some of which were quite creepy!) You can park on the meters on the street. However if you try plugging pappajohn sculpture park in the Google maps GPS it may send you to a rose garden a few miles away. To successfully get here with google maps navigation, the GPS calls this place "Western Gateway Park". If you have extra time in your day this is a quick stop, but it is not a major loss if you have other stuff planned in your day.
