It was like a living museum. As the residence of the governor, people actually live here and events are held in the rooms, so it's not a dusty museum. However, there is quite a bit of history to learn. Small group tours are great.

It is a beautiful 150 year old mansion currently used as the governor's residence. You receive an hour long tour of the home and a local history lesson.

Some of the history of Des Moines preserved in this building. Nice to see it is well cared for, and worth the trip.

The background story to the building is fascinating. The house itself is also intriguing and tells a story of its own. Wonderful design features, impressive woodwork, furniture, parquet floors and much more. Well worth the time to visit.

The house and tour was very nice. We loved all the items that belonged to the original family. Very rich in Iowa's history.

The interesting volunteer-run tour of this historic home is informative and gives you a nice overview of the history and the significant features of this stately mansion. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in beautiful architecture. We enjoyed the tour and admired all the lovely woodwork of this lovely home.

Very informative tour lasting about an hour and starting with a short video of its history. Tour guide knew a lot of facts and was fun to listen to. Probably not something for very young kids.

This is a guided tour of the 1st and 2nd floor and the governor lives on the 3rd floor. Betty Shellie was an excellent guide giving us so much information about the home and allowing us plenty of time to look around or ask questions. You park on the street and pay at a meter or the event parking lot across the street

We arrived on a cold Saturday in time for the 11:30 tour. I was surprised at how many others joined us. Our tour guide, John is clearly in love with this building, flaws and all. He points out mistakes, tells stories and jokes and gives you a great historical perspective. Well worth $5. Beautiful 150 year old building. Don't miss the early Grant Woods painting in the upstairs hallway.

The tour of Terrace Hill, the Iowa Governor's mansion, is well worth the time. It is a beautiful home and the tour guide was very knowledgeable.
