The exterior lead us to think we had made a "wrong selection" for dinner, but we were pleasantly surprised with the cute interior, great friendly service, & amazing food!! 3 out of 4 of us had the dry-rub ribs & they were fabulous!

My husband and I frequent this place on a semi-regular basis. Last time, we went with a group of 6 to celebrate a birthday and it did not disappoint. The brisket, catfish, ribs, pork chop and pulled pork all got rave reviews from our group of food snobs. The smoky flavor of the meats are well balanced with spices...no need for sauce here! The vegetable of the day is always interesting and packed with flavor...this time featured brussel sprouts that were to die for. The staff is always fun, kind without being overbearing and efficient. We love the quirky wine list and tasty dirty martinis as well. We will be back again and again!

Went there with co-workers. Found the menu with a great variety of meat and fish. Quality and portion were great. List of local beer was very interesting. Good place for foreners that do not want to eat hamburger every day. Nice, clean, friendly. Maybe they could stay open a little longer at night.

The Flying Mango was really hyped up. We are transplants to Des Moines and have been actively investigating the dining scene. This was highly recommended. The meal started with drinks, mojito's to be exact. Probably the worst mojito's we have ever experienced. The meals them selves were unremarkable and not flavorful. While the concept is unique the execution on the flavors were simply not complex or bold and when you are dealing with smoked meats you must make the flavors grab your attention or they are simply overpowered by the smoke. I could have eaten higher quality BBQ for a lower price had that been what I was seeking.

Chosen based on reviews for a birthday dinner, the place was packed. They specialize in BBQ and smoked meats but offer seafood dishes, which we were seeking since birthday boy doesn't eat meat. Our server was seriously unfriendly, haughty and couldn't really answer questions about the food, nor did he want to.
We often split meals and the charge for that was $10, excessive, we thought. The mussels appetizer was wonderful but the mahi dinner was poorly seasoned and dry, with sadly cooked and seasoned vegetables and rice. The server also forgot one of our side dishes.
