After I complained about them hiring a band that mocks disabled children for one of their family events, they blocked me on twitter, and refunded my family's membership. My ten year old son loves that place and we went nearly every weekend, and had a membership for years. He even had a little train hat that he would put on to indicate to us that he wanted to go.
They never even contacted me about the refund, or the problem. They simply put the money back in my bank account, and never sent us our family membership card (this happened right after we renewed our membership for another year).
To outright mock children, then to make them unwelcome at the museum is heartbreaking. Our first year as members we had some rough spots with docents being rude to our son (who never has problems anywhere else, and is quite well behaved, if a little odd acting/sounding/looking to some), but we continued to go. But now? It's hard to watch him cry as he requests to go. It's so hard to tell him, "Sorry, they don't want kids like you there."
