I had been to this museum once several years ago and was surprised that it had expanded quite a bit. I'm a history teacher and would have taken a lot more time if I hadn't been with a 2 and 5 year old. They found plenty to like and one of the staff members took some time to speak with our 5 year old about the boat-making shop (she used several comparisons to Frozen which made perfect sense to our girl). I think there is enough to do and see for any age group. I do agree with previous reviewers that you need to lower your expectations if you are expecting a large aquarium. Also, some of the interactive exhibits were not working while we were there. But we had a fine experience the morning we were there!

This is a very nice museum; the aquariums are smallish and scattered throughout the facility. Displays are well-done and the snack shop is clean with decent food. It's a great place for kids, but at $30 for two adults, I expected more.

This is a must visit for anyone in the Dubuque area. A lot of history of the city, the river, and the waterways of the US. The live eagle and hawks were beautiful and the aquarium was a lot of fun with reptiles, amphibians, and fish from all around the US.
We had a great time and it would be a lot of fun for kids to see.

The Museum includes two large buildings plus many outdoor exhibits. You are able to tour a couple of ships, including a large steam river dredger. There are plenty of activities for children, including a touch tank,, barge simulator, and a walk inside a catfish as well as Tom Sawyer's Cave. Some great river creatures, including rays, various species of fish and turtles, and otters. Special exhibit while we were there included 50 or more species of turtles from all over the world.
