This is a great family place. The 4th of July ice cream social is worth the trip. Kids love to see the cabin and the school house.

Like many older homes for tour, lots of historical stories of the family who lived there with period pieces.

We stopped here while visiting Dubuque for the weekend. The price for a tour is only 5.00 per person, so we said why not. The nice ladies (tour guides) are dressed for the time era. First you see a movie about 10 minutes, then a tour of the basement and look at pictures on the wall. Next you go outside and see the outbuildings, then you take a tour around the outside of the house and then you go inside. Everything is explained in GREAT detail. We actually had to leave shortly after getting inside the house because we wanted to see other area attractions. Do NOT take a child or even a teen on this. They will be bored to death. If you are totally into history of the area and victorian furnishings you will love this tour. The tour guide was very sweet. On the way home we looked it up on the internet. It turns out this house is haunted! Maybe they should start doing haunted tours instead. Now that would be fun!

What a time it was when a child's manners were important in a home. There was proper etiquette at the dinner table, during play time, and when showing respect to elders. Learn about these times when you visit this beautiful house in Dubuque, Iowa.
