This hotel is fine. It's decently priced ($85 for a 1 king bed, 2 people, no discounts besides AAA), clean, and perfectly comfortable. The continental breakfast (included) had a satisfactory selection, and the breakfast room was comfortable. The free wireless internet and large selection of TV channels were good.

The property itself could use a facelift; it's looking a bit worn-down. It's not gross or scary, though. The decor was kind of dated.

We stayed here because our power went out and it was the closest hotel to our house. The front desk person was very friendly and helpful, even late at night when we checked in with no reservation.

It's not a special destination by any means, but it's a reasonable choice if you're looking for something clean, safe, and convenient.

I was pleasently suprised by this hotel. The whole hotel must have been recently renovated based on some of the past reviews. The rooms were clean and spacious. the first floor rooms have large sliding doors that open to a small patio with a grassy area beyond. The pool was large and well maintained. I will stay again when passing through the area!

For the price and the fact that my buddy had his reception at this place, I was underwhelmed by this hotel. There's nothing terribly wrong with the place, but there is nothing particularly impressive either.

The reception venue was basic, food was good, but the drinks expensive. Why charge $4 at a wedding for wine and not at least try to sell it at cost? The hallway carpets are very stained and worn out in some places, and had a strange smell throughout, possibly from the strong manure smell permeating the outside from the local farms. The parking lot is a vast no man's land of concrete badly in need of repair. In short - this place needs a good renovation.

The room itself was basic, clean, no problems there, except our sheets didn't really fit the bed and we woke up on the mattress. We had a balcony to the indoor pool, but that wasn't very useful as it was extremely stuffy and very hot. It was like a sauna out there, and made the hot tub experience uncomfortable because the air was hotter than the water.

If you get married in or visit Iowa City, try getting a venue closer to PedMall (ie downtown) even if you spend $20 more, as we had to take a $10 cab each night each way to go out. For its location, the cost of the hotel was a bit much - as other reviewers have mentioned - its an unimpressive roadside motel.

Very dirty hotel. There was food in our room from prior guests. Nasty. Room next door had an all night party going on with all teenagers. Kept my family up all night long. Desk clerk was a complete jerk. He said he can`t stop a party. Didn`t even offer a discount or apolgize. Breakfast was a joke. No bowls, sour milk, and a few stale pastries. Just the way i wanted to start the day off.
Hotel looked like it hasn`t been cleaned since the 70`s..It needs major updates! Like new everything. (Including staff). I`d sleep in my car before I stayed here again...A much better choice is the brand new Marriott in Coralville. I would have stayed at the beautiful Marriott, but it was booked. Anyway, stay away from the dirty Highlander Inn. You`ll be glad you did!

Had initial problem with check-in as room was not available, but the front desk staff quickly found another room. Banquet service was excellent - friendly waiters and waitresses. Pool area was clean; exercise room had basic equipment. Room was spacious and well-appointed.

The front desk was very helpful in making our reservation and when we arrived the desk manager was very aware of our request. This is an older class hotel which has been updated. The suites are really super for a family with a TV, fireplace, wet bar, recliner, ref, and eating area.
The continental breakfast is not fancy but has the basics. Excellent pool area with pool side rooms available.

We stayed here one night for a wedding. The motel is out of the town of Iowa City, and it is old with little renovations. The motel is dingy--dirty carpets, poor lighting, and lots of general noise. The smell of smoke hangs in the air throughout the hallways and rooms. Our A/C didn't work very well and was really noisy. There's also thin walls between rooms, so you can easily hear what's going on down the hall. When we left the next morning, a crushed beer can was propping open the "secured" door to the outside and pizza boxes were overflowing out of the trash cans. That about sums up the place.

Yes, there is an indoor pool, but all in all, this motel was way too expensive for a below-average roadside motel. I would recommend looking elsewhere because this hotel has little to offer.
