“Hawkeye Football Visit.. Only room left in town.”
Reviewed 14 November 2011

We were fortunate to find this room a few days before a big football weekend in Iowa City. This was the only room left. I was quoted $199 for a King Suite non smoking directly with hotel. We arrived ready to sleep around 10:30 to find our room was right off of the pool and there were many folks sitting and drinking and kids swimming. Our window faced the indoor pool and the noise was plentiful. In the morning we complained that no one told us about the location of our room which we felt was important info. They did clear the pool area when we called the front desk. Also in the AM my husband reiterated this and they did compensate him with a discount on the room.. Room was clean and would stay there again but not facing the pool!

Room Tip: Not facing the pool if you like to sleep!

We stayed her over November 4 & 5. We had read some of the reviews and were a little concerned. Our stay was fine. The room was fine. There were some cosmetic defects with the room but I probably wouldn't have noticed if I wasn't looking for them. The hotel could probably use an update, but I wouldn't notice if I wasn't looking for it based on some of the reviews. We got in Friday and our room was right off of the pool. There was hardly anybody there and our kids had a ball playing in the pool. I would stay there again.

The front office staff is very friendly, but the hotel leaves something to be desired. My husband attends a seasonal district dental meeting that is held in the conference room so we only stay there because of the convenience of attending the conference. The bathroom had mold on the ceiling. The shower curtain smells terribly like mildew and the room smelled as though a litterbox had been in there??? I later found out that pets are allowed and while I understand that some people love their pets, I did not pay almost $90 to sleep in something that smelled like a litterbox. The wall above the air conditioner had holes, big holes.--As though the drywall had rotted. I will sleep in my car next time.

We stayed on a Saturday night because we were in town for an Iowa game - this was the most "reasonable" compared to others in the area. And this was not reasonably priced, this was over priced because it was a football weekend. Check in was S-L-O-W. The room (non smoking) was either smoked in or used to be a smoking room because it smelled like an ash tray. There were dirty towels and excessive hair in the bathroom - gross. And to top it all off, there was a barking dog next door that barked all hours of the day/night. I had no idea this was a pet friendly hotel. Will not return. Ever.

The staff was nice and helpful. Room was clean and pleasant. Courtyard is pretty ugly-- just some cement and bald grass. The hot tub was broken the whole time I was there-- several days. It's not far from campus, where I was going to a workshop.

Myself, my son and my brother stayed here Mar 30, 2011. We were in town for a Jeff Tweedy show at the Englert Theater. Our room was very spacious with a recliner; I hear they have them in every room. The beds were queen sized and comfortable. The carpeting has seen better days and the furnishings are older, but everything was clean. Although it's right off I80, It's a little hard to find because the area has had businesses leave, so it's a little out of the way, but we had no problems and it is perfectly safe.

We did not eat at the restaurant so I can't comment on that. I would stay here again. Rate was reasonable. It is a little out of the city; about 1-1/2 to 2 miles. There is a very good restaurant across the interstate on the way into town. It's called Bob's Your Uncle Pizza Cafe, but it's more than a pizza place. Really good food.

The bathroom ceiling was full of mold and the shower and tub floor was full of dark grey sludge from an old bath mat. The floor had old popcorn on it and the alarm clock looked like someone smeared salsa on it. The second queen bed looked like someone wiped their fingers on the comforter that had just eaten chocolate or just used the restroom (use your imagination). The towels smelled like smoke. The breakfast area floor was sticky and filthy. The hot tub only had one running jet. Our door would not lock unless we slammed it and put our full body weight into it to make it shut and lock. The main entrance door closest to our room would not lock so anyone could come in. We had an awful experience!
