Just completed our third visit with Mark and Bob and felt like we were leaving home at checkout time. Their warmth and friendliness always make us feel part of an extended family. The food has been delicious and our room immaculate for each visit. Their sightseeing and restaurant recommendations have been outstanding. Reading next to the fireplace has been a joy. The aroma of fresh-baked cookies that magically appear in the evening are a further enticement to relax in a comfortable chair in the living room or on the porch.
We visit Iowa city regularly to see our son who is in graduate school at the University, and can’t imagine staying anywhere else.

We decided to stay here on a business trip instead of one of the corporate chains. We (3 in our party) were extremely pleased. Mark, who runs the day-to-day operations, is fantastic. He gave us great restaurant recommendations and does a lovely breakfast. I especially liked the fresh fruits and locally baked breads each morning. The inn is very quiet at night and the bed was comfortable. Cookies and tea in the afternoon were a nice treat when we got back from our business meetings. The inn was significantly cheaper than a room at the Sheraton, yet a million times more pleasant! It made our travel much more enjoyable. I would definitely stay there again!

We stayed for two days and two nights and from beginning to end the hospitality, space, and amenities were excellent and amazingly thoughtful. In addition, the included breakfast was fit for a king and queen - not only delicious and in quantity but beautifully served and laid out. The B&B was tastefully and exquisitely decorated and well kept. The owners and guests were respectful of one another, helpful, friendly, and not intrusive. The room that we stayed in was simple yet complete and comfortable. Beautiful, really. The bathroom was clean, pretty, and functional. Water pressure was good and there was plenty of hot water. The B&B is in a beautiful and interesting neighborhood and within walking distance (maybe 1/2 a mile) of a host of restaurants of varying cuisines and costs. There are a lot of college kids in this part of town, though not in the area immediately occupied by the B&B. The B&B is in a quiet residential area near downtown. There are also a lot of fun shops and bookstores. Don't let informal and spartan restaurant appearences deceive you - there is plenty of good food in these places. It's a fun town and fun B&B.

From the moment we arrived at the Brown Street Inn, it felt like a home away from home! Mark & Bob are spectacular hosts! We were welcomed with homemade chocolate chip cookies right from the oven! We were given great idea's for shopping & dinning & a map on how to get there! We were given a full tour of all the rooms but our room was the green room. The room was spacious, yet cozy and the bed was incredibly comfortable! Breakfast was amazing! It consisted of cereals, fresh breads and pastries, eggs florentine, fresh fruit and honey glazed ham! We even came home with a new recipe!!! Chatting at breakfast with Bob & Mark was wonderful and we will definetly be back! We recommend staying at the Brown Street Inn to anyone!!!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Brown Street Inn over December 14-16. We've never gone the B&B route before, but now that we have, I'm sure we won't go back!

Upon arrival, we met the innkeeper Mark. He had warm cookies and a smile waiting for us. The house was beautifully decorated for the holidays, with a Christmas tree in the foyer, Christmas carols being softly piped in, and a fire roaring in the living room. It was warm and inviting and all I wanted to do was sit by the fire all night!

We stayed in the green room, which features a king sized bed and private bathroom. The bedding was very comfortable and there were plenty of pillows and blankets. There was a walk-in closet and mini-fridge waiting for us, and a nice stand outside with coffee, tea, and accessories for a bottle of wine.

The breakfast was very, very tasty (and healthy!) and we enjoyed the pastries that were offered as well. It was a snowy weekend, but all the walks were constantly shoveled so we never worried about sliding around.

This was my first experience at a B&B, and I have no doubt I'll be back.

My only complaint about my stay at the Brown Street Inn was that I was only there for one short night. My room was very lovely. The bedding was pretty and warm. The free wireless access was great. The bathroom had plenty of light, a magnifying mirror for make-up and nice towels. There were cookies waiting for the guests upon arrival. Coffee and tea "fixings" were easily accessible outside the guest rooms. The public areas were excellently decorated and I just wish I had time to sit by the fire and enjoy them!
Breakfast next morning was healthy and substantial although there wasn't a warm entree included (which was fine with me.) All this for an $80 rate.
