A lovely location so perfect for discovering the New Forest. Very welcoming from the minute we entered to leaving, our Breakfast on both days was great 1st morning you ordered and 2nd morning which was on Saturday was a buffet but you could still order food off of the menu which I did ( scrambled eggs ) and it was no bother , we had an evening meal on first evening which was lovely the waiters were so helpful and even gave us a free desert wine, as we had to wait a little bit for our main.
We stayed in a new refurbished room and it was lovely, you could not hear the traffic that much, YOU are out in the country and it is on a main road in and out of the New Forest so a bit of noise is understandable, I am sure we have noise at home, but have gotten use to it .
We went to the Green Dragon pub across the road on 2nd evening for a meal and my partner had New York Stack which did look good and he said was excellent. Lovely little pub great food and atmosphere.
Overall we had a great stay and will be going back later in the year to do some more exploring of the area and surrounding places.

A lovely location - perfect for discovering the New Forest. Up-graded to a super newly furnished room. Staff mostly very polite and attentive although we had an unpleasant incident upon arrival regarding changing the time we had booked for diner. We were rudely told by the bar staff that a table for 9 people had been booked for 7.00, so we couldn't possibly bring forward our booked time from 7 30. Then, looking at the menu to see what vegetarian options were available, I was asked if I could eat fish! As it turned out the table for 9 didn't appear, so we were able to be seated at 7.20! There is only one vegetarian option on the menu which really is not good enough these days. The food however is very nice. As my partner loved the food so much we ended up dinning there for our 2nd night as well, even though I ate the same meal 2 days running.
Our room was at the front of the hotel and was slightly noisy from road noise.
Perfect for a golf break as the golf course is at the rear of the hotel, but beware of the rules of etiquette!

We chose this hotel to celebrate my sister's 60th birthday. We had a room at the front of the hotel, and were kept awake on the second night by a rattling window. 3 windows were warped and wouldn't shut. We complained at Reception the next morning, and were told that we should have called them at the time. However, my sister and I didn't want to see a maintenance engineer in the middle of the night. As we had paid £10 for an upgraded room, we expected better, and to at least have had this amount refunded. The only concession was to take the price of a coffee off the bill.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the back away from the main road

Dear Anne J,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent visit to the Bell Inn, I am disappointed that you only had a satisfactory stay and was kept awake by rattling windows, we have had a few windows warped in the continuous rain we had and its an old building dating back to 1782 some windows couldn't open or close, now we are having some nice weather we will get these windows repaired.

We have just returned from a weekend break at this hotel. Right from the minute we entered reception the staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Both our evening meal and breakfast the next morning were outstanding. We were put into one of the newly refurbished rooms (16) which was huge and extremely comfortable. Overall an excellent hotel, which I highly recommend.

Room Tip: We had room 16 which would normally have a £10 upgrade cost which is worth paying as the room is hug...

We stayed at The Bell for just one night. It was perfect. We upgraded to a 'deluxe' room (Superking bed!) which had just been refurbished overlooking the road. We were slightly concerned that it might be noisy but the sound proofing cut out the noise of the cars. Within 15 minutes a group of donkeys, ponies and pigs walked past the hotel. Lovely!!! The room was decorated beautifully and the bathroom was delightful and sparkling clean. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and the staff could not have been more helpful. So much so much that after we returned home I contacted them to find out the colour of the paint in our room and Tracy the receptionist even managed to send me a photo of the time of paint!!! Beautiful setting and perfect if you are a golfer.

We stayed for two nights, the rooms on the ground floor face the road which is extremely busy and noisy for such a picturesque little place, we were amazed at the volume of traffic, we couldn't sleep with a window open it was just too noisy, the only time the traffic eased up was around 3-4am. on a positive note the staff were all very nice, efficient and helpful, whoever is recruiting and training is getting it just right. Breakfast was perfect, plenty of choice. We had one evening meal, an imaginative menu but desperately lacking in vegetarian options, I managed to cobble something together from side dishes and a starter, the staff were very happy for me to do this and the food was very good. Dessert choice was very good and service in the restaurant was exceptional. Great location, nice welcoming staff and good food, maybe we were unlucky with our room but probably wouldn't return here because of the noisy road

Heard about this gem through a voucher scheme. It is in a small hamlet in the North East corner of the New Forest, not far from the M27 but seemed like a world away. The welcome was friendly and unpretentious and this carried through with all the staff. The hotel is currently undergoing an upgrade and we were lucky enough to have one of the rooms that had been completed. Painting was still going on which, as we all know leaves a lingering smell, but that cannot be helped and the end result will be worth it. We had a deluxe room - No. 16 - on the first floor overlooking the road. The road is a well used B road during the day but it quietens down overnight and there is secondary double glazing to shut out any noise. We always sleep with a window open and had one of our best nights sleep ever. The room was very spacious with a large and very comfortable bed and fleece lined curtains that would keep out a hurricane! The en suite did not have a bath but did have a lovely, generous sized power shower. Everything you could need and new and fresh. I believe the hotel will have to update its web page to accurately show the rooms in their new guise. Downstairs the bar is nicely furnished as is the restaurant. It cannot go without mention that the dining experience was superb. We like dipping into fine dining restaurants in London and this was very definitely up there! The New Forest breakfast was also good and so generous that I couldn't finish it. We sincerely hope that we can return some time in the future.
