We stayed a night at The Decker and thought it was a really cool place to stay. They have been renovating it for a while and it looks great. There are still a few small quirks, but overall it was a great place to stay for the money. The restaurant was good. The bar was a little out of place, though, as it didn't really fit in with the rest of the hotel's decor. Nothing bad, but just didn't have the cool historic look like the rest of the place. The prices and selection were fine, so no real complaints.
Lastly, the owner was very friendly and hung out with us and told us cool stories about place. If you have the chance, grab a drink at the bar and hang out with him.

My friend and I traveled from Wisconsin to visit her sister in the hospital, it was a stressful day but as soon as we walked in we felt a weight lifted from our shoulders when we were greeted with smiling faces and beautiful decor. We were actually able to walk around the hotel and choose which room suited us best and while looking around, we couldn't believe how gorgeous this place was. After a long night at the hospital we returned and slept soundly in the comfortable beds and warm blankets. The next morning, we went to the restaurant just to have a cup of coffee and the owner himself made both my friend and I breakfast! It was delightful! I highly recommend this hotel and scrumptious food. The hospitality we received was some of the best. I will definitely be back and I will be bringing my whole family with too! Thank you so much for such a lovely experience!

This past weekend, my family and I stayed at the Decker Hotel while we explored the cute town of Maquoteka, IA and explored Maquoketa Caves State Park. As soon as we walked into the lobby, we immediately fell in love with the decor (we had two young boys with us and they were so excited to be staying in a "cool and fancy" hotel). The owners were extremely welcoming. They encouraged us to explore the other rooms so we could see all the different styles and furnishings, which was really interesting and fun.

The restaurant downstairs was delicious! Great prices, great service and extra great dessert (homemade chocolate cake with a chocolate/coffee frosting made by one of the owners, himself!). There was a brunch buffer on Sunday morning that was to die for (Only $11!)

We look forward to going back and bringing more of our family and friends!

I had grown up in the Maquoketa area and this was my first opportunity to stay at the Decker Hotel. We were very pleased with the accommodations and the brunch was excellent. If you are looking for an affordable and nice alternative to chain hotel/motels or some place away from Dubuque or the Quad Cities, I think you will find the Decker Hotel to be a great alternative.

Room Tip: You may want to stay towards the back of the hotel as Main Street can be a bit busy, and you may alw...

This was an absolutely wonderful experience! The entire staff is friendly and welcoming, food great and the Sunday Brunch to die for! Rich has told everyone the biscuits and gravy were the best he's ever had. We've recommended this place to anybody who mentions they are going on a weekend hideaway or to Galena. Reasonable rates! Awesome time!! We're going back!!!

We had a great stay here. The rooms are spacious and well done. On our tour, we really enjoyed the variety of odd shapes and crazy layouts in the rooms. The building was rebuilt and refitted with modern conveniences which makes it charming and unique.

Talk the owners. They are fun and interesting. If you can catch one of them at the bar, you will enjoy a nice evening of conversation. He even offered to make us breakfast even though it was a week day when the kitchen was normally closed. We did stay on another night where the weekend buffet was available and it too was delicious.

Room Tip: Take a look at all the rooms that are open before you pick one. They are all different and offer var...

A wonderful step back in time. Friendly staff and a fun place to stay. The rates are very reasonable and we look forward to trying a different room next time we go there, just for the fun of it. The bright lights from the parking lot may put off some people - but we enjoyed our stay here. This place has become a special place that we look forward to visiting again. Other hotels that are going to attempt a restoration project should take note that this is how it's done...restoring and upgrading to current day needs without losing the charm and the unique local history of this beauty. Our only regret was that we did not have a chance to try the prime rib!
~ Thanks for a great stay.
