Meredith Wilson's home is a hidden gem. Our tour guide did a fantastic job of giving us the history of the house and the Wilson family. Very interesting.

The home is by tour only and is included in the $10 museum fee. Go into the glass doors of the building behind the home to enter the museum. The home has been restored after being a rental home for awhile. A few pieces of furniture and items remain from the Willson family and everything else has been donated and best placed to match the time period. There are a lot of photographs of the Willson family placed throughout the rooms.

Included in the ticket price for Music Man Square next door, you can take a guided tour of Meredith Willson's boyhood home. It is a short tour with a docent to share many interesting stories about the family, the history of the home, and many things from Meredith Willson's past that influenced his writing and later life. Mason City volunteers sure are proud that he called their city home, and they are happy to answer questions if you have any. You may take photos if you like. If you have read books about Meredith Willson's childhood and family like my husband has, you will enjoy seeing where the stories actually took place. He was born in the home, too. This is a really well-done remodel of this home with some furnishings that actually belonged to the family. The Music Man square is handicapped accessible but the boyhood home is not since the tour includes the upstairs and even attic of the house.

A fine example of homes of the era. The guide was very interesting and had many stories of the family and their accomplishments.
