We can't imagine staying anywhere else now... we had 9 in our party... ages ranged from 15 to 52,,, there was something for EVERYONE to do... miniature golf, pools, beach, ,, shopping, our two youngest took their rollerblades, and had a blast on the pavement... great food at the restaruants, we rented a pontoon for 3 hours, we all fit comfortably and had a GREAT time.... staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and made us feel at home..there was a book in each room that clearly states how to get any service you may need, boat rentals, food, customer service... .. rooms were clean and decorated nicely.... saw someone post previously that the tv was small... umm... who goes to a resort to watch tv???? we had so much to do we got back to the room in time to fall asleep...
showers had lots of HOT water,,, had everything we needed, and MORE>..... resort is in the heart of okoboji,,, we went just down the road to arnolds park amusement park, several in our party had never been to the area,,, and they cant wait to go back... we will be booking another weekend or longer at Village West soon....

ABSOLUTLY the worst resort i have ever encountered in my adult life, the restraunt had 5 star prices and vending machine quality- ( hint-hint...one semi sober waitress is not enough) this place is in need of a remodel- and if you like sharing your room with thousands of little critters this is your place, but i have to say for entertaining the 13" tv with the vcr/dvd combo was somthing else.

The only problem I had with the resort was the beds were like sleeping on plywood, my issue is with the main event restaurant within the resort, I would like to thank them for teaching my children how not to treat people. We had a group of 11 on the friday before labor day they were out of there special of the day claiming they didnt know it would be this busy, we ordered our food salads and drinks after half an hour the children had there milks still no drinks or salads however a table near us that came in 15 minutes after us had already recieved there drinks and salads. So we asked our waitress for our bill for the milks and she snapped on us and said ill cover it dont worry then she tells the manager we are leaving without paying, So we went to perkins and had a wonderful experience there. Id like to thank perkins of Milford for saving our night

Went for the timeshare sales presentation and stayed in the hotel style room in the main building. I read the reviews from other guests the previous evening and wasn't looking forward to our 2 night stay. Enroute - listening to WCCO 830 radio personalities Chad Hartman and Adam Carter discussing bed bug issues and got me thinking about checking the room thorougly.

Results:

Resort located on west side of lake, opposite side of the lake from most of the area activity.

Room ok (average) and updating is needed. Room was fairly clean, but floor wasn't vacuumed when housekeeping replaced sheets and towels. No bed bugs seen or no bites noted... thankfully! Bathroom and shower worked well and the shower head provided good pressure and comfort with plenty of hot water.

Main Event Restaurant only open Wednesday-Sunday 5-10pm...average food & prices, casual.

Boathouse coffee shop (located at lakeside) offers breakfast and lunch...limited menu, very reasonable prices ( 2 eggs, bacon & toast $3.75) and good food. Deck seating with nice water views and next to the resort private swimming beach.

Betsy's Diner has a larger selection and also open for breakfast and lunch. Good food and very reasonably priced. Full (large portions) breakfast (2 eggs, toast, hashbrowns, meat) includes drink of choice for under $6.00!

Large indoor pool and two outdoor pools (one heated) and a lakeshore beach.

Site has boat and trailer parking with lake access, and lots of dock space.

The complete site really needs landscaping attention, atrium style windows need to be replaced or repaired, new carpeting required in many areas and a good overall cleaning would certainly help. One site exception - they do have some newer buildings that are updated, however most of the original site needs attention. They also need to convert to energy efficient lighting, since most light bulbs I had seen were the incandescent type. Ironic with many wind towers so near by.

No flat screen tv's in the room, lobby or bar.

Wireless internet is limited to the lobby area, however our room was close to the lobby so we did receive a strong signal in the room.

We found the site staff to be friendly, helpful and providing us good service.

Take the 90 minute resort boat cruise...only $5.00 per person with interesting narration by the Captain. The 17,000 sq. ft. house is an interesting item to see from this tour. There are many very nice homes to see on this lake.

I worked for a travel and lifestyle media group and have stayed and evaluated hundreds of places. On a 1-10 with 10 being best, I rate the SITE at 3.3 and I rate their lodging rates at 2.5 for the value you receive. Negotiating lower rates by 30-40% for your lodging would then increase the lodging rating level. I would recommend this location if you can accept average and able to negotiate a lodging rate savings. Hope this review is helpful.

We spent a long weekend at Village West Resort with 11 adults and 7 children ranging from 7 - 1 year in age. We had a fabulous time, great beach, good food, and a lot for the kids to do. Nice game room, amazing movie theater and good company. Thank you for making it a great weekend.

10. Nothing (bedspreads, furniture, carpet, light fixtures, telephones, wallpaper, employees, promotional video, brochures) has been updated since the resort's mid-seventies debut.
9. There's cable, but the TV is so small, you don't know what's on.
8. No WIFI in the rooms.
7. Where's the lake? I don't know! You can't see it!
6. DVD rentals are futile when the room doesn't have a player.
5. The hallway bears a striking resemblance to The Shining.
4. No continental breakfast.
3. They stay open in November even though there is nothing to do.
2. Need something? Don't expect the front desk to deliver it. Go get it yourself!
1. The timeshare salesperson can't stop talking about the "feeling" she has that you are there to get drunk and see strippers like she does.
