We were extremely upset with our experience at the Buena Vista Inn & Suites. We had a suite reserved and called the hotel around 3:00pm to tell them that we would be arriving later in the day, but that we were coming. The woman's response was "It's no problem, as long as you get here before midnight." We did get there before midnight, and were more than ready for bed. At the registration desk, the first thing was saw was a note on the counter that said, "Pool out of order". I said, "Oh, the pools out of order? That’s a bummer." The man on duty's response was "That pool's been out of order forever. The management is terrible! They don't take care of it. It should have been fixed a long time ago."
The suite was nice, but the room was very warm and humid. There was a thermostat on the wall, but it didn't work. We turned on the "cool air" on the vent along the baseboard. The air was barely cool. This was a big beautiful room, but uninhabitable at that temperature, and would clearly take a very long time to cool off. We called the front desk and he came up with a desk fan and extra towels and bedding. But there was no way that fan and the "cool air" would create an environment that we could sleep in in a reasonable amount of time. He was doing his best, but we said if we couldn't have a different room we'd have to go somewhere else. The gentleman helping us had said that another staff person was coming in to help him.
When the assist. manager (?) got there, he called the room. He said that they had a room with two queen beds in it, and they would add two rollaways if we needed them. It would be crowded, but cool. The original man came up to the suite while my husband was talking to the assistant manager. When he hung up, we told the original man that we were being moved to a room with two queens. His response was, "There is not a single queen bed in this hotel. There will be two doubles. But there are no queens. This is terrible. This is my last night working here. I can't believe what a horrible job the managers do. And I have to clean up their messes."
We did move to the other room. True about the double beds. But we actually each had our own bed. It was crowded, but cool. And we slept. He told us to be sure and talk to “Lupe” tomorrow and let her know about what had happened. We noticed that the fan had a note on it. “Lupe’s fan. Do not remove. Do not give to customers.” We promptly sent that back to the desk with him.
When we talked to the other family members that were staying there over the next two days, we learned that they had numerous issues as well. For example, the room was cleaned but the floor was not vacuumed. And there were no towels left for the next day. They had notified the front desk. We they came back, a vacuum had been left in their room in the middle of the floor. In the other family member's room, the door didn't stay locked, and although they eventually got the door to shut (it was missing a plate or something.) they never felt safe. We all certainly felt it necessary not to leave any valuables in the room. Lastly, in the continental breakfast area, there was a sink at the end of the counter. I have a picture of it. There are some cracks in it, and they had clearly poured coffee down the drains for months, because the sink was mostly brown and looked disgusting. The food was fair. Poorly stocked.
I'm usually the one in the family that has to deal with these kind of situations, and my husband was more upset than I’d seen him, and he did all the talking. When we spoke to Lupe the next day she said that we would need to discuss any kind of compensation with Hotels.com She couldn’t do anything about it. I spent almost $159 a night on those rooms plus tax adding up to over $400 for two nights with tax. Unbelievable. I would never have spent that much knowing what I know now.
