“This hotel is what got me reading tripadvisor”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

Stayed here as we passed thru, wintery, spontaneous stop late evening. Will NEVER stay here again. Property made me question if Econolodge Corp office EVER visits their properties and/or reads any of these ratings and feedback. I'd love for the CEO of Econolodge to stay here on an "Undercover Boss" episode. Furniture was outdated, bathroom had permanent stains, carpet appeared to be second-hand and not "barefoot friendly." And the bed... the bed...? The bed was like a slab of concrete!!!!! Because of the bed I asked for a different room shortly after we checked in, but was told there wasn't one available, even though the parking lot was pretty empty. If the carpet hadn't looked gross we would have pulled all the bedding onto the floor and slept there. We even looked under the matress to see if it was on plywood, but it was on a very solid boxsprings. Horrible night, absolutely no sleep. Next day we went back on the road and went about 4 hours before we had to stop for the next night because we were exhausted. TOTALLY AVOID THIS HOTEL. NEEDS A BULLDOZER...

Well, let me first say, the facility isn't what it once was, whatever it was. That being said, it was an adequate hotel for one night. I used a coupon from one of the Iowa hotel books and received the room at a fair price, and pretty much got what I paid for. Nothing frill or fancy, just a great nights sleep on a comfortable bed. Breakfast was minimal but if you want to, there are many places to eat in the Urbandale/Clive area. I'd stay here again if I could get the same deal, would not pay any more than the special price offered.

Room Tip: If you can, go for a first level, courtyard facing room. Area is quiet, just more light in the court...

Well, this was not what I had hoped for. It's a bit run-down, the place looks like it's seen better times for sure. The room was very dated, the linens and bedding were not in good shape at all. I am glad my wife wasn't with me because she would have not slept here.

This hotel was a desperation stop. We were tired and didn't know where the next hotel would be (2 exits up the road!) The room was dirty, the chairs stained, the sheets ripped. The fans were so noisy, they could not be used, including the one in the bathroom. Even for $72 a night it was overpriced. I have no idea what the included breakfast included, as we chose not to find out!! Fruit loops and sugared flakes were the cereal on the counter. The coffee was undrinkable, and I can drink almost any coffee!

$60 a night with taxes is pricey for an economy room, but it was located off the highway and it was close, but not in busy Des Moines. However, if you don't like paper thin walls (and ceilings), a bathroom the size of an average closet, and beds that feel like tables,I wouldn't advise staying at this motel. If you do, request the 2nd level.

Room Tip: 2nd level rooms should be quieter

Not a bad place to stay for under $50. They are undergoing renovations currently and our room had all of the plumbing redone with all brand new tiles and fixtures. The bathroom worked very well except that the shower head is mounted at about 5 ft which is tough for a 6'2 person. The rest of renovations are in progress. The continental breakfast is kind of joke but there is Pilot Travel Center just down the sreet. The location is nice and quiet and feels very safe. The speedbumps in the parking lot are HUGE!!! I would definitely stay here again while in the Des Moines area if I just needed a place to crash for a night vs paying $100 plus.

This place needs some serious repair. The headboard was
falling off the wall. The faucet to the shower came out of the wall when turned on and the caulking was not there or moldy. The carpet was stained (like dog pee). The door
stuck to the floor when you tried to open it.
