“Pleasant stay, good food.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2011

I recently has occasion to spend three nights at The Black Horse, the first night was spent in Dandelion Lodge which was clean, comfortable and well equipped with towels and bathroom toiletries. The room was over warm at first due to the heater being on full but this was soon rectified by turning it off and opening the window. The next day, following an unusual plumbing disaster usually only seen in Laurel & Hardy films, I moved to Larkspur which was a slightly larger room with a double and single bed. This room was also well equipped but the décor was slightly tired and there was a strange sour smell which I couldn’t identify. The beds were very comfortable with nice fresh bedding and lots of pillows for relaxing and when the outside lights went out at midnight it was very dark and quiet so aiding a very restful night’s sleep. My only complaint about the rooms would be the lack of TV channels (I could only get BBC1 & 2, ITV and Channel 4) and the fact there is only one easy chair despite the rooms being aimed at dual occupancy. I was advised that this block is due to be closed for refurbishment very soon.
The pub was very welcoming, warm and cosy – quirky set up with the hops strung along the ceiling and down the beams, there was a very good range of drinks available including real ales and ciders. The food was very good and was all freshly cooked, although the prices were a little expensive, especially for starters and sweets, you did get a good quantity. There is a special menu at lunch during the week and on Monday & Tuesday evenings which offers good value for money – example being 3 courses for £15.50 evening meal.
The staff members were on the whole very pleasant and helpful.
All in all I had a very pleasant stay at The Black Horse and would definitely stay there again.

Took my husband for a birthday treat & booked overnight stay on Saturday & a table for dinner. The Inn had been recommended by friends & did not disappoint!
We stayed in Bluebell room which was extremely clean & had everything you could want although if I had one criticism - the bathroom could have been warmer. Everything was very modern & reminded me more of a boutique-style hotel rather than a pub B&B. The same applied to dinner that evening.
The Inn is charming & our table was in the conservatory which was candlelit with a lovely, romantic ambience/ The food was very good, not just your usual pub grub, and good value for money - if anything the portions are a little too big!
Service was good & the staff very pleasant especially at reception where the receptionist was very welcoming.
We would definitrly return & recommend to others.

The rooms are very simple with somewhat twee names like Clover and Bluebell but very clean, good showers and very dog friendly if you want to bring your furry babies. The bed could be a bit bigger but other than that I really liked it. The pub is wonderful, great food, fab atmosphere and the staff in general are some of the nicest people I've ever met. The only problem is not the hotel's fault but they are too close to the motorway and eurostar/train lines so you have an unending noise in the background. I think it might be quieter in London! Other than that I loved the place and wish it was in a quieter area, if it was I would be a regular visitor.

This Inn has everything going for it and the owners know that so unfortunately they rest on their laurels and don't go the extra mile. We arrived on the coldest day this year and our room was cold, so cold we sat in our coats, I have never had to do that and we are seasoned travellers! The rooms and reception were a route march from the Inn itself which didn't help. We were told the maid was supposed to have put the heaters on when she left the rooms at 3pm, quite honestly it was so cold the heaters needed to be on at 9 am that morning to heat them enough. We had to ask for extra blankets for the night. The Inn is so popular with it's food that when we returned on Sunday afternoon to have a few drinks and a warm through there was not enough room at the bar and no table for us to sit at. When we pointed out we were guests we were told quite rudely ''You should have booked'' so we ended up back in our rooms where the maid had turned the heaters off, I kid you not, drinking sachets of hot chocolate in our coats!! Yes the accommodation was clean and adequate although not many extras, the food was good, slightly over priced, breakfast was good, the Inn was lovely and cosy and warm, unlike our rooms and unlike the service. When we informed of these issues we were not offered any apology or offer of compensation. Such a shame because we would have come back. The worst thing for us was we were treating our friends to this weekend break as they had been through a rough patch and we felt quite frankly embarrassed by the whole experience. This is a popular restaurant whch happens to have a small bar attached.

This was the first time that my husband and I have visited the Inn, and was a pleasant surprise for my birthday.
Upon arrival the staff were very wecloming and friendly, and were so, throughout our stay. Our room, Heather, was cosy and comfortable. As of late, the weather has been extremely cold, but our room was warm and kept the night chill away. It was equipped with all of the facilities that were required and was exactly what was needed.
The restaurant meal in the evening was delicious and without a doubt value for money. The breakfast choice was plentiful - a wide range of cereals and fruit were available as well as a cooked breakfast (our choice), which was very filling.
We would definately stay again and upon leaving, we would highly recommend this Inn to anoyone who wants a warm friendly atmosphere and value for money.

Found and booked this on expedia. Useful to have sat nav to find it in a charming rural location.

Chalet type room had all I needed plus a nice gastro pub type restaurant in main house that was full of locals

Will stay again.

This was our second stay here, we returned as we were so impressed with everything the first time, amazing value for a lovely hotel, very clean and modern and good breakfast included, very cosy and peaceful for a getaway and lovely walks in the surrounding area. Unfortunately we did have some problems with our room, the blind would not go up and there was no hot water due to plumbing problems and it being a bank holiday, but the staff were good and in the end, as they were fully booked and could not move us, the whole cost of our stay was refunded. Despite this we still had a lovely time, we ate in the restaurant and, although pricey, was well worth the money. I think we were just unlucky with the room this time and would definately return.
