We highly recommend this wonderful restaurant with accommodation. We booked it to stop off on our way home to Wales from Dover - having driven from Burgundy to Calais we decided to stop off after crossing the Channel and The Black Horse could not have been a more delightful place to stop when we were tired and in need of good food and a good night's sleep. When I booked I was astounded by the most friendly response I have ever had to phoning anyone to book or buy anything. Gemma on Reception is a delight and such a wonderful ambassdor for this place. The rooms are very modern and spacious. Very well equipped and the beds very comfortable indeed. The food in the restaurant is of a very high quality and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The Black Horse is ideally placed for a stop off before crossing to France or when coming back - but in essence any excuse to stay there - is a good one! Highly recommended - we will stay again without any doubt at all!

We stayed here for 2 nights in June. The pub is reached down a narrow country lane, then appears like an Oasis! The accomodation is made up of lots of very smart chalets. Ours had a small but modern bathroom, and a decent size bed area, and was down the bottom of the complex, near a very nice duckpond, although the ducks seemed quite happy to wander into chalets if the door was left open! The very good breakfast was taken up at the beautiful pub. The pub itself is very busy, so restauant booking for a meal is recommended. I have taken one star off of the cleanliness because our feet seemed to get very dirty on the rooms rug, so a good clean of that would be good.

Superb setting, lovely rooms. Great food (fantastic breakfast) friendly and helpful staff. Well managed. Worth visiting in its own right even if you have seen all that there is to see in Kent.

Recently stayed here for six nights while visiting northern Kent. Although this is a busy area of Kent , Thurnam is a little hamlet tucked away in the hills and is very quiet.
The accommodation is of excellant standard with tea and coffee facilties, shower gel and body cream provided and plenty of towels. The rooms are light and airy and all have individual"Flower" names instead of room numbers. (We had Sweet William) The rooms are located at the backand side of the hotel and some are down a steep hill. Not so bad going down but quite a trek coming up if you have walking difficulties. The grounds are well kept with a pond with resident ducks which are delightful.
Food at the hotel is very good with a full menu and bar meals. I felt these were on the expensive side but are of good quality and choice.
The pub is very popular and unfortunately many of evening visitors take the residents parking areas which can be a problem when returning to the hotel later at night.
However I definately stay here again.

Hotel was enormously welcoming to us - plus 3 small dogs who absolutely loved their visit. Room was compact (as was the bathroom) but very clean and pleasant. Lighting was very dark - could be used to make a very simple clean room feel a little cosier. The disappointment was the beds - which gave us both back ache. Desperately uncomfortable. You also get to hear your neighbours every move outside as all the windows congregate onto a lovely open area. Slight bad mark there - the central feature was a small pond which was so thick with algae we literally saw the fish jump out and try and commit suicide! Food delicious in the pub - but did learn a lot about the staffs' weekend plans as they all chatted to each other over us. Great concept - just need to go a little further.

This pub with accomodation truly deserves all the accolades of the other reviews. In what can be an expensive part of the world finding such an excellent place to stay, offering good food and accommodation at such a reasonable price is a refreshing change. The accomodation was fresh, clean and well equipped, the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The location - a quiet Kent village was lovely.
I wouldn't hesitate to visit again for either a business or social stay. It is very well placed.
Many, many thanks

The room was in a chalet down a steep hill at the back of the pub. The room was cosy and clean and quite new and modern. Internet available but at £5 per visit. Early morning call from the ducks outside the window was not booked in advance!!! Restaurant was clean but a little over efficient as starters arrived whilst still eating bread and olives. Staff were all very pleasant. Overall OK for the price, would probably go again for 1 night stop over but not to stay any longer.
