“Illegal, unprofessional, and a complete lack of morals and scrutiny.”
Reviewed 23 August 2014 via mobile

Housing prostitutes is the least of the problems here. Along with the substandard service from the front desk( who was informed of the situation) was unwilling to help me make sure my only ride to the airport, who was on location(at the hotel), The one person who would take me to the airport to make a flight home to see my mother who's heart stopped for over 15 seconds, almost dying in the intensive care unit back home. I'm appalled that at the lack of morals and the lack of sympathy by the staff at this establishment. Also completely appalled of the lack of scrutiny of its obvious prostitution problems. Do not take your family here or expect to receive reasonable rates or a safe environment.

We stayed here for 2 nights during the State Fair. We had our animals with us and the hotel is amazing for its green space and even provides bags for poo. The rooms are tiny. Even with double beds we were falling over each other. The tvs are the old tube style and the air even though at 50 didn't manage to keep the room very cool. They do not have breakfast and they do not provide shampoo, conditioner, coffee maker or hair dryer. I did manage to borrow one from the front desk both mornings. The employees are not overly friendly and the bedding had what looked like pizza sauce on the comforter. The floors were filthy and we we brough our animals but even at home they sleep on cleaner floors than this. The beds are very uncomfortable. You also have to pay 2.99 a day for Internet. I did love the walking area. On the weekends the business area is deserted. That was about the only plus. Well and they always had ice :)

The stark lighting, fifties fixtures and cold vinyl tile flooring caused me to wonder if I had fallen into a film noir flick. The price was cheap. But, on another trip I stayed at an Airbnb in Des Moines. for less and it was clean, bright, homey and hosted by a lovely woman. Uh-oh.

For whatever reason, West Des Moines is home to rather pricey motels. This Motel 6 seemed the most reasonable of the lot and, based on other's reviews, we booked a room for one night. The room was clean but very small - Microtel size, in fact - and the furnishings were basic. No easy chair or lamps - just a couple of desk chairs and wall sconces. The TV was an old 19" Phillips (not a flat screen, in other words). I gather that Motel 6's business model provides for no additional amenities for their guests (hair dryer, shampoo, Kleenex, breakfast). The ice machine was one floor down from our room and the AC was noisy. The towels were absolutely threadbare. Although the shower stall had been updated, the floor was a little slick and no mat was provided. The motel is close to some good restaurants but that's about all I can think of to recommend it. Next time, I'll drive a little farther and get away from West Des Moines. I like Tom Bodett but not enough to try another Motel 6.

Room Tip: If you're a senior, call direct and request a discount.

We stopped here after a long day in the car, left Estes Park, CO that morning on our way home. We were tired and ready for bed and found ourselves in Des Moines, IA without reservations. This hotel is located in what I would call a business exit. There were several hotels to choose from at this stop. We pulled into the Motel 6 to see if they had rooms – they did indeed and for a what we thought was decently priced (2 DBL beds/non-smoking $55.99) so we stayed. We were on the main level and our window was completely obstructed by the landscaping – we were only there to sleep, so okay with us. Beds were so-so, hotel was quiet, room was clean but carpet was damp (?? – we were hoping from recent shampooing), additional charge for wi-fi which we didn’t purchase, additional charge for room with refrig/microwave. Good for one night stay if only requirements are bed and shower, no frills.

This was a very nice Motel 6. Very clean and a bit larger than the average Motel 6 room. Those staying at a Motel 6 need to understand the price does not buy you a hair dryer, kleenex, HD TV or a coffee maker. This motel provided a clean place to sleep and shower, which was welcome at the end of a long day on the road. Lot's of places to eat nearby and a mall about a mile up the road. Off the interstate enough that noise is not an issue. WiFi did cost $2.99 a day but worked very well. Front desk staff was very nice.

We booked a room at the last minute for a Car Show we were attending as we had been told that the other Motels we were checking on were all full. There were a lot of amenities around the Motel. Restaurants, gas stations, etc. . It could use some updating. The beds were very hard, the pillows very old, no shampoo, etc. in the bathroom. Not even any tissues! Good thing I brought my own hair dryer. Only coffee in the lobby in the morning. McDonalds was close thank goodness, and there was also a Perkins and a Culvers close by. Our cards did not work to open the door after you were all the way up to your room so you had to go back down to the desk to have them rekeyed every night. The people at the front desk were very friendly though so that is a definite plus.

Room Tip: Third floor, clear on the end. It was a quiet room.
