Thank you for your recent review of the hotel. We appreciate the feedback on the staff and check in process. I do apologize that you did not enjoy our breakfast offerings. I will make sure that feedback gets to the culinary team so that we can become better. Thank you again for choosing Sheraton for your Des Moines travel needs.
I am always excited to stay at a Starwood property , but this was not the case at the West Des Moines Sheraton . I like Sheratons because you can count on a "Sweet Sleeper Bed" . I really don't thinkthis was the case at this hotel . You know they say you can judge a book by it's cover , Well I thought this of the bed at the Sheraton . While they used all the same pillows , covers ,etc . It was not a "Sweet Sleeper Bed" , You could actually feel the metal springs in the bed . It reminded me of the old Holiday Inn bed . Really had a resless night of sleep . Other things that bothered me was the lack of properly working elevators . First of all there were only 2 in this 10 floor hotel and one of them was constantly out of service . The hotel is really in need of an update . The morning breakfast was nothing out of the ordinary and they forgot to give me my Breakfast coupons at checkin .The noise factor in the atrium lobby was beyond the beyonds with many screaming teams staying at the hotel . the noise carried into the rooms on the Club level Just not a great night . Hope they will up grade this hotel, because the locatons is good . I would probably return only because it's a Sterwood property .
Thank you for your review. It appears that we could have done much better during your stay. I apologize that the stay did not exceed your expectations. We are nearing a full renovation of the facility and we would invite for you to come back and experience the hotel once completed. Thank you again for the feedback and safe future travels.
Our family has stayed here a few times while traveling. We feel it's worth paying ten to twenty more than the average hotel because the beds/bedding are so comfy after ten hours on the road. The kids think the lobby/glass elevator is so cool and they get so excited to stay here because it's "fancy" to them. Drawbacks: Sheraton still charges for Wi-Fi and no refrigerator. We had to fill trashcans with ice to keep our stuff chilled. I'm sure the cleaning staff love that. We like the Mexican restaurant around the corner. Would stay again.
Thank you for your review of your recent stay! I am glad you enjoyed your stay and yes, those Sheraton Sweet Sleeper beds are pretty great! It was nice to hear you were able to visit some of the local restaurants as well, the Mexican restaurant by the hotel is definitely one of the most popular in the city. We hope to see you again soon!
This 10-story atrium-style hotel was built a while ago (70's - 80's?), and that fact brought with it a lot of baggage.
On the plus side, the walls were more soundproof than most modern 4-story hotels. The atrium construction means that there really aren't any hallways, so the sounds of people in the hallway and slamming doors were absent. Also, the shower reminded me of the good ol' days before water conservation became politically-correct -- tons of H20 and water pressure.
On the down side, compared to the more modern hotels in the area, this property featured smallish rooms (still perfectly fine for 1-2 people) and a small bathroom in which the door seemed to be perpetually in the way and just one sink. The ceiling in the bathroom was very low, and the ceiling in the room felt low as well and looked old-fashioned.
The room and bathroom were well equipped and decorated. The TV provided better picture and sound than most and the bed/linens seemed to be a notch above the other hotels in the area. The bathroom featured stone countertops and nice fixtures. The desk and desk chair offered a good place to work, including lots of power outlets, decent wi-fi and lighting.
Other than the room, the hotel felt dated to me. The big atrium-style interior with the loud water feature and accompanying humidity made it feel like the place was trying too hard to be fancy in a 70-s kind of way. It also robbed the place of any hope of feeling homey or intimate.
The breakfast was slightly better than the ones I've experience in other hotels in the area, featuring an omelette station, fruit, bacon, cereals, etc....
The hotel staff was always friendly and attentive.
All-in-all, this is a little different from the newer, similarly-priced, cookie-cutter hotels in West Des Moines (Residence Inn, Hilton Garden Inn and Drury Inn). I'll stay here again because the advantages outweigh the disadvantaged in my ledger, and because it's a SPG property.
Thank you for the great review of our hotel! We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again very soon. We appreciate all the comments and hope to see you again soon!
The guy at check-in was fairly nice, thought he was night auditor but based on it being a different guy the next morning very early, he must have been 2nd shift. Hotel is isolated and unattractive. Rooms are unusual, what they call a suite is not a suite, just an oversized room.
Next morning was trying to get assistance from what I assume is the night auditor and there were two young kids yelling and cussing in the lobby. I was there on business and trying to get proper service on some mistakes the hotel had made and get packages they were supposed to have delivered me but had not. These two kids were all over me and I finally told them to address their problem since I expected it was something simple.
Apparently these kids were related to hotel management and were trying to break into a room where a hotel employee's nephew was staying. Well the uncle (with the hotel) shows up and starts yelling (it's 5AM) and telling them to "get the Hell of my property" and that he was calling the cops. Word to the wise - not a business hotel and I would not allow my relations to stay in my hotel so it can be broadcast all over the internet.
This place is a dump, will be travelling to Des Moines a lot as an SPG Platinum, but I'm going with Marriott. Too much abuse from Starwood.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. I can assure you the interaction you experienced was not from someone on our management team, but rather guests of the hotel. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of.
Stayed for two nights as part of a group. Booked two rooms myself and none of the groups rooms were even close or on the same floor. Pool small and loud, breakfast buffet not very good. Not a lot of space to hang out in lobby and had security telling us we could only sit there if we bought drinks from hotel bar. Staff was nice as were rooms. Just would have expected more from a Sheraton especially for the price.
Thank you for the review of your recent stay. We appreciate the feedback.
