I visit regularly and enjoy scallops, foie gras, and on a recent visit the truffle menu. Exceptional food and service all in Des Moines. Try the tasting menu an adventure everytime.

“Excellent food and dining experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2013

I have been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to eat at Baru 66 a few times (it would be more but I live out of town). This is a place not to miss in the Des Moines area! The food has been spectacular every time and the service is outstanding. The staff is very professional and informed about their menu, which really enhances the dining experience. The décor is sophisticated with an intimate feel without a snooty air. The white table linens, romantic French music in the background, fresh flowers on every table and individually hand painted plates of various French scenes set the stage for a great experience.

I have ordered off the menu in addition to having the opportunity for Chef David Baruthio to create dishes off the menu. My most recent visit was this past weekend, I ordered the quail with foie gras and was not disappointed. It was literally one of the best things I have ever eaten; it took some reserve not to ask for seconds let alone abandon my manners and lick the plate. The presentation was beautiful right down to the truffle shavings and lavender scented whipped butter. It really highlighted the care and attention to detail that is put into each dish.I have also enjoyed their steak with lobster that was served with a salad showcasing local La Quercia pancetta (it all went perfectly with a Fischer beer). Be sure to save room for the fondant du chocolat, I have had it every time I have been there. It is the kind of dessert that you dream about and secretly hope that your dining partner orders their own so that you don’t have to share.

I appreciate that their menu is never the same, which has resulted in me trying foods I have never had before and new combinations that were novel and fresh. Don't miss an opportunity to dine at this restaurant, you won't regret it! It is not a surprise on chef’s nomination for the James Beard award, congratulations to David, the staff and Baru!

We went because it was listed #1 in DSM magazine. Right away it showed as over priced and under delivered. The steak was half my fist??.. We travel ALLOT and this was not impressive.

“So very lucky to have them in Des Moines”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2013

We ate at Baru 66 last friday night with some friends of ours. We have eaten there many a times and have never had a bad meal. Matter of fact as far as dinning in Des Moines or any where in the midwest it is the best. As having family in Paris and have been there many of time this rates with the finest. The freshest of ingredients, the style of design, and the flavors that can't be matched.

“Excellent food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2013 via mobile

Pricey but very good food. The seafood was fresh and perfectly done. My salad and entree both with seafood were done perfectly. The chocolate dessert was not too sweet just the way I like it. The service could be friendlier even if formal. Overall some of the best stuff I've had in Des Moines.
