“Most famous of the Madison County bridges”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 September 2011

We visited all six bridges and saved the Roseman for last. It's the bridge which appears most prominently in the movie Bridges of Madison County. The bridge appears to be in great shape, and unlike some of the other bridges, it still spans a body of water. In the movie, Clint Eastwood drives up to the south end of the bridge, but that thoroughfare is no longer passable. Only two bridges--the Imes and the Roseman--sport gift shops, but the Imes Bridge gift shop was closed when we visited on August 24th. Legend has it that the Roseman Bridge is haunted, but we didn't see no ghosts!

“Very neat......”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2010

We rode our motorcycle four hours to the town of Winterset, and drove around and seen all 6 of the covered bridges. They are old and in good shape and really neat to see. Most of them are on gravel roads so if your like us and on a motorcycle drive slow!! But they are all marked good and easy to find. We stopped at the tourist center by the Imes Bridge and got a map and the nice lady there told us some history and we gave a tip for her kindness.
The town of Winterset is charming and you can spend a whole day here. I just wish people would not write on the bridges, they are covered with names and dates and writing of letters to kids, it takes away from the history and I dont understand what the attraction of defacing something is but other than that I'm glad we went.
