Always a welcome stop (and also the only good stop) coming back to Lilongwe from Blantyre or Zomba. The restaurant serves some delicious meals - my favourites are the chicken lasagne, the cheesecake and the coconut custard tart, but also does fresh coffee and tea, all served in/on lovely pottery. The guesthouse rooms are very nicely presented, very spacious, with balconies looking out over mountains. The prices are a not above average for that quality in Malawi, the superior rooms come with a television and tea and coffee, probably not worth the extra money. The lodge is the perfect place to set off for a climb up Dedza Mountain - which is a must if you have a whole day there. The pottery shop is great for gifts.

The staff here are very friendly and Samuel, the manager , is always smiling and happy. He is diligent in his duties and always makes sure the guests are ok. The Bursar , Gertrude is very professional and presents a wonderful impression when you check in. The rooms are very clean with mosquito nets provided and the bedding is warm and new. The rooms are ensuite and the shower is good, don’t spend too long in it as it is heated by a fire stoked by the workers and gets cold quite quickly if all the six rooms use it at once. There have been modest improvements in the last year, security lights, removal of trees and new bedding. Make sure you take a head torch as the electricity can be off and on. This did not hamper the staff when cooking dinner . The menu was great , Malawian stew , chicken curry and beef stroganoff among the favourites and of course the cheesecake. Well tended grounds and the staff were happy to do our laundry ( very clean and ironed on return).

We didn't stay here we only went to do a tour of the pottery factory which is amazing. They break down huge rocks into dust which they mix with quartz and velspar to make clay. Every thing is hand made and hand painted and the finished product is excellent quality and stunning to look at. Well worth a visit.
