“Truly nice place”
Reviewed 26 January 2011

On the way from Cochin to Guruvayur, we saw the sign board of this resort and visited. After seeing the interior part of resort, we whole family decided to stay there for one night.
We found the nature ambience, food quality, service, speed boating etc were excellent and would like to visit again.

all the positive reviews are spot on. Its a relaxing hotel overlooking a wide stretch of river, comfortable bungalows with verandah, great pool, good gardens and excellent value priced food at the restaurant. Service is friendly and nothing is too much trouble for the management or the staff.
The location is not within walking distance of the town (kottapuram) but a stall a few minutes away has the basics. Its really a perfect spot to relax and enjoy rather than a base for sightseeing.

We were rescued by the Vedic Village!
We are a family of 5 touring South India, and my mother had flown out to join us for a two week ayurvedic treatment holiday. We had booked through an agent in Delhi to stay at an "authentic "Ayurvedic centre close to Kochin...problem was that after 5 days we had to leave due to the terrible food and uncleanliness. As captain of the ship, so to speak, I could feel the mutiny rising, unhappy and hungry kids, unwell and uncomfortable mother and wife...recipe for a disaster. And then it came to me...i'd seen a signboard by the road nearby saying "Vedic Village"...so we checked it out.
It's a gem, nestled by the tidal river, wonderful views without any backwaters whiff, a beautifully crafted resort with no attention to detail spared, top class accomodation, wonderful staff, as clean as Singapore or Zurich, good food, great pool, and to cap it all off.....Sabu, the owner, is a rare commodity, perfectly tuned to guest needs and a wonderful man.
But what about the Ayurvedic treatments we had come so far to get? No problem.
The Vedic Village has a small Ayurvedic Spa, run by an Ayurvedic expert and his team, they continued where the other "centre" had left off, diagnosing and treating us superbly.
We have witnessed some medical issues reversed and cannot recommend them enough.
In the end we enjoyed the best of both worlds, treatment and comfort combined, kids had a great time.
And guess what? It didn't cost the earth either. Excellent value.
Location: near Kodungallur, 45 min to airport and Fort Cochin's a day trip....wish we knew before as we'd never have gone to Cherai Beach Resort earlier in our tour if we'd have known about this place.
Sabu, well done. You have created the perfect mix and are a credit for Indian tourism.

we have travelled to india on six occasions in the last 20 years, this was by far the most enjoyable which was due to sabu and his hard working staff, we stayed for thirteen nights and were treated like one of the family, the room was ideal for us and was cleaned properly daily, the restaurant served delicious freshly cooked meals in a very nice setting.the pool and the garden area were very scenic and peaceful with a view across the river thrissur,we went on an early morning speed boat ride to the the river mouth and managed to see some dolphins you can also do the same in the evening for the sunset.this place is just perfect whether you want to totally relax or take trips to nearby attractions we chose to relax which we certainly did taking full advantage of the hotel massage facility.thanks for a great holiday sabu and all at the vedic village.

Sabu Joseph and his team go to extraordinary lengths to make your stay as comfortable and hasslefree as possible.
The rooms are clean and well maintained. There is a swimming pool that occupies pride of place, and an ayurvedic spa.
The restaurant sometimes finds itself stretched in dealing with, and accomodating all its guests simultaneously. They get round this by organising buffets if there is a crowd. The food is quite good and the Chef accomodative.Definitely try the Kerala food.Try to preorder in advance at the restaurant,as they can then go to the market and buy fresh seafood.Crabs and prawns are definitely worth trying. We also had excellent deep fried sardines.
Although I personally did not have a massage, those who did were not over the moon about it.For what is on offer,it seems a little pricey.
If you want to just relax on a hammock or just laze around, this is the place. On the down side, there is no beach, as the resort is adjacent to what seems like a river.
Depending on the time of your flight, leave plenty of time to get to the airport,as traffic can be heavy at times.
Some of the other guests, were using this as their base and going into Kochi etc from here.Personally I cant think of a better way to unwind and end your visit to Kochi ,than to have a few days here before flying out .

This beautiful property hugs the shoreline along the expansive backwaters of Kerala. Each hut or thatched roof room faces the water, with handsome porches for sipping lime soda and watching the sunrises and sunsets over the pool area. You'll eat most of your meals here unless you've hired a car for an expedition, as there is no neighborhood nearby to walk to, as you're in a country village setting. We found the food excellent--fresh seer fish, crab, lots of dals and chapatis. Timing is slow since everything is made to order. Sabu and his staff are solicitous and efficient. All rooms have AC but the power can go out once in a while. Don't miss booking a sunrise or sunset trip on their little power boat. There are great temples and synagogues to visit in the area. It was our favorite place to stay during a 16 day trip across India.

If you are looking to be cut off from the city and not intending to do the tourist circuit in Cochin then this is the place to unwind. Nestled in a typical sleepy village on an island, the resort has the river lapping up the boundary walls of the resort. Food is very good and the service is efficient and prompt. Rooms are a tad small, but definitely value for money as you dont tend to spend any time in the room. Its a very peaceful place where you watch the river flow and soak in the sunset. Small, homely and very well maintained, its an ideal place to spend 1-2 days doing nothing much. Its about 45 minutes from the airport, but that is pretty much what it could take you to the Fort Cochin area as well, given the traffic in the city.
