The Dune Lodge is overwhelming. We spent two marvellous days there, far from the world, at the end of our journey around Namibia. And it allowed us to even upgrade our experience in that fascinating country. It's a place you visit to spot incredible natural sceneries. You don't go there for the game (you will still see al lot of orixes, antelopes and even some giraffes, if you're lucky like us) but for the breathtaking colours of nature. It's like seeing all the landscapes you can find in Namibia, all in the same place (except for the ocean, of course). You won't have to think about anything, there. It's all perfectly organized, clean, stylish, delicous. The staff is friendly and attentive. You could look at the panorama from your lodge's veranda for hours.

The guide who took care of us for the whole stay, Elias, was the most professional, prepared charming, and nice we had ever had.

We recommend the long day excursion with a pic-nic stop at the 'hard rock café'. It's a sort of cave among granite boulders where you'll have lunch in the shadow, in the middle of nowhere. As regards the 'sundowner excursion', you'll find yourself speechless, sipping a gin&tonic or a glass of wine while the sun goes down. And when the sun does go down, oh, you'll see a perfect Milky way.

Food is delicious. Dinner is served at the same time for all the guests. You'll have to share a big table (but as we were on honeymoon, we had our private table the first night). Dinner is presented by the staff both in English and in Bushman (it's a click language).

No wi-fi. At the lodges. And you won't regret it. But in case you need it, someone will drive you down at the reception through the dunes.

There is more to say, but that's enough.

In OUT OF AFRICA Meryl Streep says: I had a farm in Africa … and our story carries on from here. Paying for your accommodation is part of "owing and buying into" this amazing Namib Rand Conserve … extremely well kept, clean and very conscious to keep nature natural and unspoiled. You can also do a private contribution to the Wolwedans Foundation supporting this initiative. My hat off to the Stephan Brückner who initiate this wonderful concept.

Besides enjoying the one of the exquisite lodges in Namibia, we found the wine cellar ! Under the sand and simply lovely! The staff brought candles, we chose our wine carefully and voila! Simply divine and we felt like absolute gratitude. It was a RUST VREDE Reserve, bottled in 2011 form Stellenbosch.

We felt like we "had a farm in Africa" enjoying each other's company and wallowing in the beauty surrounding us.

Since you are looking for an isolated place to experience the Namibia's desert is the best place to stay. Nice tours, a perfect ballon sunrise and excellent staff able to help on any need. You are in isolated place, so do not expect in a wide range of food option during the meals, but everything we'll prepared. No power energy, all the solar energy is for light and hot water.

Dear Guest

Indeed, one of the highlights of visiting Wolwedans is the joy of experiencing the peace and tranquility that comes with being in a remote location. In terms of cuisine, the chef prepares a culinary feast each evening, serving a range of both local items with every five-course meal. It is thus rather puzzling that you found the meals to be lacking in variety. Please feel free to contact our information desk with suggestions for the future. Our team would gladly respond to any queries which you might have.

Kind regards
Magdalena

It's my third time to enjoy the magnificent Wolwedans lodge and the gorgeous private NamibRand Nature Reserve! Normally I come with my husband for one week, this time I came alone for one week - to take a time off for myself. And one of my dreams came true: enjoying the beautiful landscape and the awesome sundowners on the back of a horse! I can strongly recommend this unforgettable experience to everyone who loves horses. It creates very special feelings of freedom, relaxation and connection to nature. For me the private NamibRand Nature Reserve is one of the most beautiful places on our earth and the Wolwedans Dune Lodge an excellent and very particular place to enjoy your stay and where people do their job with passion and heart. This has made our stays always so exceptional.

Wolwedans was probably our favorite lodge in Namibia. From the well-appointed chalets and the incomparable vistas, to the very good food and general kindness of the staff, Wolwedans is a top quality, well-run establishment. A two- or perhaps three-night stay is perfect, as besides taking in the wonderful scenery, there's not a whole lot to do. Lodge manager Hendrick and our guide Daniel were outstanding.

Dear Guest, thank you for posting such a positive review of Wolwedans. Owing to travel itineraries, some clients may choose to stay for a night or two. However, several guests do opt to enjoy the scenic drives, hot air ballooning, safari walks or horse-riding activities at the Wolwedans. In such cases, the clients often prefer to stay at our lodges and camp sites for three days or longer. We look forward to welcoming you back to Wolwedans in the future.

Kind regards
Magdalena
