Wolwedans Dunes Lodge
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 16 October 2010

I stayed in Wolwedans Dundes Lodge on a Flying Safari with my mother and we would both agree that this was probably the nicest of all camps we stayed at even though they were all spectacular.
The service was very friendly and we had a really nice guide named "Italy" who went with us on all the private drives. The open vehicles are well kept and the drives are amazingly beautiful and Italy had a great eye for spotting even the smallest animals.
The lodge itself was beautifully set in what feels like the middle of nowhere with gorgeous tents that can actually be opened from almost all sides so that you can be woken by the stunning sunrise.
A true honeymoon destination!

My stay at Wolwedans Dunes Lodge was simply excellent, a tranquil desert retreat, fine food, excellent staff, great atmosphere, fantastic location. Free Internet available with lodge computer at the reception (4-5 km from lodge) via satellite link, slow, but enough for emergency email checking after arrival or before departure. Lodge emphasizes communication between guests as dinner in general is served at one large table. Very nice library, includes both nature-related and (mostly older) fiction books. Simply one of the best recreational places I have enjoyed yet.

This is a great lodge in an area with some stunning scenery. Wolwedans prides itself on 5 star dining and accommodation and delivers 9/10 on these measures. The service is of a very high standard as are the rest of the Dune Lodge facilities. The dining experience is fantastic with enthusiastic service staff with a focus on personalised service. The wine list is extensive and the wine cellar itself is an attraction worth taking a god look at. Two nights would be an ideal stay there if you want to stay active but 3 days is fine if you prefer some relaxation time in the desert.

We spent two nights at the private camp at Wolwedans and it was a real treat - our own chef and guide and having breakfast viewing the wildlife approaching the water hole. The setting is amazing and is very tastefully decorated with delicious cuisine - we would highly recommend it!

Large luxury tents. Even though we had two double beds in our tent, our son got a separate tent all to himself. Excelent service, everything included except vintage wine. beatifully situated. Pretty expensive, though. We were lucky as the Wolwedans Dune Camp was being upgraded and we got a free upgrade to the lodge.

Wolwedans dune lodge is in private reserve next to Namib Naukluft park. The fantastic chalets are on top of a red dune, connected with the main building via elevated walkways to minimize impact on nature as much as possible. Spectacular susets, sunrises from you chalet or during drives. Upmarket, for sure, but perfectly cut like a diamond. Quality of food and wines, service level, experience of the staff, the guides, the drives, the chalets, everything is top notch!
We'll come back, and thanks, Werner, for this tip!

Magic location. incredible views, simple construction but the real deal when it comes to eco-friendly, integrated architecture, esp. obvious when you arrive by private plane.
Friendly staff, rugged but decent amenities, nice authentic bar & restaurant.Food & wine quite nice considering almost everything but ostrich meat has to be bought by 6 hours drive in desert...Best are outdoor breakfast on stills , above the desert or drink by the fire in the Hemingway-type old bar, staring at the surrounding silence of the red mountains and immensity.
Thanks to Stephan Brueckner's vision, passion & constant dedication to this unique place.Keep it up and exclusive !

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Dunes Lodge is perched on top of a dune plateau, overlooking panoramic vistas in all directions & capturing the beauty of the desert. The building style is a combination of wooden structures and canvas blinds, opening up to the desert beyond. The lodge reflects the ambience of a tented camp, but provides the comfort and protection of a permanent building. Each of the nine spacious chalets with en-suite bathrooms has a private verandah, which connects you to vast stretches of untouched sand. Sleeping with your canvas blinds open is like sleeping under the stars. The main complex consists of two lounges, a number of sundowner decks, a fireplace, a tea deck, a library, the wine cellar and two dining rooms. The lodge also has a swimming pool, suspended above the sand. All communal areas of the lodge open out onto decks with superb views. The variety of recreational space makes a visit both exciting & relaxing. To make the most of your view, we recommend staying three nights. ... more   less
