We flew with two private planes to Sioma and had arranged for Sioma Camp to pick us up from the runway, situated 6km from the camp. Nobody arrived and after walking to the camp we found out they didn't know we were coming and as a result weren't expecting us. We concluded that the owner, Hans, got his dates wrong. In any case, not a good start if you traveled 1700km to get there. The location of the camp is on a beautiful spot next to the fast flowing Zambezi river. The tents were luckily ready for occupation and the staff went out of their way to make us comfortable with the little resources they had. There basically wasn't any food or drinks available. We were also supposed to do a boat trip up the river to the falls that afternoon, but our guide was away. Cell phone communication is impossible due to the remoteness of the place, but luckily they were able to track him down and he took us to the falls early the next morning. This was an incredible experience and the highlight of the stay. Hopefully more people will be able to experience Sioma Falls and Sioma River Camp now that the Chinese is completing the tar road from Livingstone to Sioma.
