We had not been to the Nightingale for a while, but decided to try it again as it looked like it had a refurbished. Unfortunately I could not tell you what the food is like as the barmaid asked my 21 year old son for ID. He has not been asked for ages and as he was with his parents did not think to bring any. We were also going to eat so he only had to be 16, not even 18 or his age 21. Both my husband and I said how old he was and I know they have to be careful, but seriously he looks older than he is. We went somewhere else and will not be back.

Hi screen name 47,

Here at the nightingale we operate a strict challenge 21 policy and as your son is 21 and could not produce i.d he would not of been served on this occasion. This is not a new Operation, it's been around for many years and it is a legal requirement of any pub to Ask for identification off a person if the server thinks they not be of age.

With on-the-spot personal fines, licenseing laws and prosecution to the business available, This is why our staff have been trained to the Challenge 21 scheme and did the correct procedure on your visit.

Family lunch for Fathers Day. Promptly shown to our table and drinks orders taken. The rather short menu was passed around, a mix of generic pub grub dishes and Sunday roasts. We ordered then waited.... Eventually the meals came. I, foolishly, ordered the roast beef dinner: two tiny slices of beef, some over cooked roast veg, a smattering of cabbage, a Yorkshire pudding that looked like it had been trodden on and, I kid you not, some salad leaves... presumably to cover up some space on the small oblong plate. Call me old fashioned but I'm not one for having salad with my Sunday roast, especially not with gravy. We gave up waiting for a drinks top up order to be taken and went to the bar ourselves. After some prompting the table was cleared and the pudding orders taken, which, eventually.... came. On such a honey pot weekend what a missed opportunity by the management of this pub. Not enough staff, an uninspiring menu and poorly prepared food. Could have been a sales opportunity, but instead a big let down and we won't be coming back.

Hi Mutabalis thank you so much for your honest feedback. I'm sorry father's Day didn't live up to its expectations here at the nightingale. I'll make sure the team see your comments so in future we can improve our service and food quality. Apologies again.

Attended for lunch for Father’s Day.
We were greeted promptly on arrival and the waiter soon came and took drinks order.
After that, the service was appalling slow. There appeared a distinct lack of staff.
The food was very average. The roast dinner came with under cooked vegetables and a salad garnish!!!! and a Yorkshire pudding that resembled more a pan cake.!
Deserts were ok.
On the whole a very disappointed visit back to The Nightingale.
Such a pity venue so nice but lacking in all other areas.
Sadly will not be returning.

Popped in late Sunday afternoon/evening, lovely looking building with great outdoor eating space, food was good and looking forward to coming back and trying full menu, only let down is staff kept walking around with plates full of food looking for tables. To the point we had to tell one girl where the table was. Clearly it’s either a lack of training or very poor table numbering. Nothing that can’t be rectified though.
