My first negative reaction was upon opening the door, or rather, trying to. The handle moved in the opposite direction you would expect. Not bad in itself, but other people must've had violent reactions to it, because the handle was loose and the whole unit looked like the door had been kicked in with lock replaced. But it still opened, and it locked.
The box spring had been sliced with some kind of knife. The phone was dirty and barely worked; basically it should have been replaced. The walls were thin so that I could hear lots of sound from neighbors even though they weren't doing anything particularly loud.
The room itself was clean (other than the phone), and it included a small fridge and microwave. My impression was that, like with other budget motels, some of the customers think they are entitled to steal or destroy just because they paid for a night in the room. While this probably happens with expensive motels also, they can better afford to replace the damaged items.
I wish I had checked the other lodging in town, of which there are several, but I was too tired that night. While the low price is very reasonable and the bed was fine, the noise from normal motel activities was too loud through those thin walls.
