It's neat to know these are still around and that we are that close to our history.

This was boring. Complete waste of my time. Will not go back.

When you get the heck out of Dodge and find yourself driving west on US-50, you might want to stop at the Santa Fe Trail Tracks for a great view of the surrounding area. The site is right off the highway about 10 miles west of Dodge City. There is a short trail/boardwalk (about a 1/4 mile) leading from the parking lot to the top of the ridge. We could barely make out the wagon wheel ruts, but the all around view was great. There are interpretive signs along the trail to give you an idea of what you're looking at and the history of the trail. And the best part is that it's free. Beware though that if you're visiting in July and you've been riding in your air-conditioned car for a length of time and step out to walk the trail that it's like walking into a blast furnace!

It was amazing seeing this part of history. Reading about it is one thing but witnessing it is quite another.
