“Beautiful Dinner Theater celebrating 30 years!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 October 2012

The Dinner theather is actually inside the Original restored Dodge City Railroad Depot. The facility has a beautiful stage area built just for their use and is state of the art. I have been to two plays there so far, Boeing, Boeing a comedy and murder mystery called Mouse Trap by Agatha Christie. The people are very friendly and the meals served in this dinner theather are excellent. The food is served before the shows begin and the wait staff is the cast of the play. Really the two meals I've had there that are included in the ticket price is well worth the price alone. The food is always memorable. I think they usually serve just one or two choices of the main dish. Desert usually happens at the break for the final act. Service is very good and at the Mouse Trap performance the desert was a pumpkin crunch cake that was beyond compare. Really the desert was very delicious. At our table on both visits we had delight visits while dining with other guests. There is not a bad seat in the house and there are several levels of dining tables installed so that you are in no way obstructed in your view of the stage or performance.
This theater group has been in continous operation for 30 years, first at boothill Museum and now in this newer facility. The restrooms are very nice and clean. The depot is beautifully restored and fun to explore as well. The have a very reasonably priced bar serving wine, beer, and soft drinks as well as water. They have a few simple mixed drinks, but nothing complicated. They offered a table filled with some fruit, crackers and cheeses to whet the appeite before the play began.
The plays have both been well directed with really nice sets and props used on stage. Lighting and sound is expertly handled and we had no problems at all understanding, hearing, and viewing the plays. The cast for both performances I thought was well beyond my expectations, since there are no large population centers near Dodge City. It is remarkable how well they have done as a group operating this wonderful facility and bringing quality entertainment to Southwest Kansas. It really is a gifted bunch of local performers who obviously love to act and direct and do a darn good job of it. We really found both evenings absolutely enjoyable and memorable. They put on several plays a year and we definitly intend to see all the ones they offer in the coming months. We have met people there from as far away as Wichita and points east. We travel round trip 190 miles to attend, but it is very well worth the drive. Dodge City has much to see and do so it is easy to spend a couple of nights and enjoy the entertainment in the area. If you enjoy live theather and would like a memorable meal with it definitely put the Dodge City Depot theather in your plans. The tickets ran $40.00 a person for the two performances we attended and well worth it in my estimation for what you get out of the evening. As far as I know all tickets and seats are the same price. Absolutely no bad seats in the place and you don't have to pay extra to get a good seat at the play. That in itself is a rarity worth the trip. You can call in use a credit card and they will reserve your seats and have the tickets waiting for you. You do want to call ahead because some showings do sell out. Each play usually runs about four weekends with performances once a night. Shows are held on Fridays, and Saturdays. The only stairs are in the dinner theather as the rest of the facility is ground level. There are upper tables for those in wheel chairs or that might not be able to navigate stairs. I'm not sure if they have Sunday performances.Occasional special meals or shows are also held there during times like Dodge City Days, the 3 I Show and other special times. Next play is Funny Money followed by Bus Stop, and others to follow in the next few months.
