The Downtowner cafe has been in Gardner for over 50 years. I remember Girl Scout banquets here as a child. They have always been known for their fried chicken. So recently when back in Gardner I went here for lunch to have a chicken dinner. The chicken was good and came with biscuits, green beans that were seasoned well and fries which were average. The servers were friendly and the final cost was similar to a value meal. The chicken is made fresh to order so you need to allow 20 minutes for preparation. The restaurant has a breakfast buffet and closes between lunch and dinner. You can also order chicken for takeout.
