We prebook we the restaurant online before we went on holiday and we turned up at the restaurant being given a table on the terrace with an amazing view over the Dordogne River.

Our waiter was so friendly and spoke great English, explaining every dish in detail for us.

They offer 3 set menus with the cheapest being at €14.50 which really is a steal for a place like this. The other menus were €27 and €36 I think. You could however mix and match dishes from each menu.

The food was delicious and all 6 of us had something different. My favourite dish being the sausage dish from The 14.50 menu.

If you are staying around this area you must check this place out. Book in advance so you aren't disappointed.

We went today for the first but certainly not the last time. We were welcomed and shown to our table by a smiling waitress who then brought over the menu board and explained the menu du jour and also that you can mix and match from all three menus and they would just alter the bill accordingly.
They have three menus to choose from 14.50€, 27€ or 36€. As it was our anniversary we chose the more expensive of the menus. Both my husband and I chose the beef in pepper sauce with veg and rice with mushrooms. The beef just melted in the mouth and was a work of art on the plate. For dessert we chose the eclairs with sorbet and as a dessert girl i tend to judge a restaurant on their desserts. The passed with flying colours.
The restaurant was full and we had booked a week earlier and judging by the mix of locals and holidaymakers i would advise that booking is necessary.
We definitely will visit again and will try the menu du jour.
Also, must say that the view from the terrace is stunning and just adds to this perfect place to dine.

This has to be one of the best restaurants I have visited - not just for the food, but the total experience. You must book, for the locals love it too, so even out of season it is busy. I have been twice, and will go many more times, as we have just bought a place nearby. You are made to feel very welcome as soon as you enter, even in very busy times. M'sieur showed us various dishes as he passed our table, which was a great idea, and M'me was so charming with wine suggestions and food descriptions (their English is excellent too). Sit outside at lunchtime and enjoy the view over the river below. The bad points about the restaurant - you will not want to leave; and you become hooked. Meals are on the high side, but worth every bit and more. It is unpretensious - when we were there Grandma tucked the youngster into bed upstairs and they said goodnight to all. I love this place!

Believe what the others are saying - it is a great place to eat. Only warning is that you must book- when we rang they said "When we aren't fully booked we are shut". Visit on a warm evening to savour the lovely food and wonderful views over the river.

Always a challenge to repeat a great experience. But our visit to La Gabarre confirmed the great experience we had before. Relaxing atmosphere, nice terrace, and very nice dishes selected from the chalkboard (combinations possible so sufficient choice for everyone). One of the only restaurants also offering to take the remains of your great Malbec bottle back home for some extra degustation. Not to forget very friendly, and efficient personnel. For sure we will come back at our next visit.
