We arrived here expecting typical Perigord Noir fare which can be quite tiresome if you have traveled in the region before. One can get sick of seeing confit or magret de canard on every menu. What an incredible surprise this was for us. Inventive and fresh cuisine by a young and energetic chef. The food and service is top-notch and far more than you would expect from a restaurant "in the middle of nowhere". And considering that my three course lunch menu was only 14 euros, this was quite a value. We had such a great experience we drove back two days later despite staying in Sarlat (about 30 minutes away).

Outside dining available in pleasant surroundings. With just a single waitress, who was rather rushed off of her feet, service was a little slower than one would have prefered. On the evening of our visit the menu seemed a little limited but I do not know if that was the norm. The food tasted perfectly alright but lacked considerably in appearance and presentation. I would be quite happy to do a return visit, but would prefer to visit certain other restaurants in the locality

We had a lovely relaxed thoroughly enjoyable lunch. Good, efficient and friendly service. The menu card limited, but what is on offer was tempting. On our way back will definitely stop here again. Price quality one of the better in this area. The address on tripadvisor for this restaurant/hotel is Sarlat, but Sarlat is quite a bit further, it is nearer Terrasson and Montignac, on the crossroads of the N89 and D704 [address on their card is 24210 La Bachellerie] so hopefully this is the same restaurant we lunched at. I had a la carte, my wife a menu and we both enjoyed all of our dishes. We had been here before about 12 years ago, that was very good, so a few years ago we went again, but we found it not as good. This time we were not disasppointed. Definitely recommend.

It is over six months since i last visited La Mule Blanche, this place just gets better and better, it was 30 degrees outside and we ate on the covered terrace, a cool breeze blowing, we took our aperitif and were given marinated olives to accompany this.

After an amuse bouche which consisted of a melon gazpacho beautifully simple and so refreshing,(what a great idea).

I overdosed on foie gras, a home made terrine of foie gras (not from a tin, real home made foie gras) was divine, rich, creamy but with a gamey taste that so much foie gras in the dordogne lacks.

I had the main course of pan fried foie gras with a duck confit and sauce perigourdine, it was divine, my wife and her mother had the supreme of chicken with seaonal vegetables in pasta shells and a cep sauce, compliments to the chef, foie gras perfect and chicken moist and unlike most chicken in the U.K. tasted like the chicken when i was a child.

The dessert, choclate fondant with home made ice cream and caramel sauce, moist and oozing with rich chocolate taste, made creamy by the superb vanilla and honey home made ice cream.

We finished with coffee and petit fours, How much?

For 3 people, real gastronomic cooking and a bottle of a cru bourgeois medoc, LESS than £100. If you visit the dordogne and you dont come to La Mule Blanche you dont know what your missing, a real gem and more to the point every time you come here it gets better and better.

A dream restaurant, quality ingredients, fantastically cooked to perfection and incredible value.
I lived in the dordogne for many years and i can assure you that in the "home of french gastronomy" it really is hit and miss to find a good restaurant, La Mule Blanche near La Bachellerie is a great restaurant.

I have eaten in michelin starred restaurants that arent as good as La Mule Blanche.
My wife looked after her parents in a nearby village and visited every week whilst i was in the U.K. it was the highlight of the week to hear her describe on the phone what they had to eat.

The pan fried foie gras is to die for, perfectly seared on the outside and creamy on the inside. The magret in cherry sauce rich and with a wonderful strong gamey taste.
Dont miss this restaurant if your in the dordogne. In summer eat on the terrace, sublime weather and sublime food.
