“Terrrible experience”
Reviewed 29 April 2008

We arrived late in the afternoon on April 2, 2008. We had driven from Ashland, KY and decided to spend the night before returning to Crete, NE. Around 6:00 am the following morning we were awakened by the noise from the people in the room above ours. They were not intensionally being loud, just doing the normal walking around getting ready to check out early. The problem is that the sound proofing is terrible, evidently due to poor construction. We decided we might as well get up shower
and get a early start back home. However there was one big problem with taking a shower, black mold. I have attched photos of the mold. I will never stay at the Great Wolf Lodge again. I found it to be a very unpleasant experience.

We stayed at the Lodge on Thursday April 24; family of five- children 15,6, 17months. We were able to check in at 1:30(early which was a bonus). We got to Kansas City at about 10:00a.m. so we had some time to kill and decided to check out the surrounding shopping places. We checked out the Legends Mall, Nebraska Furniture Mart, and briefly Cabelea's. So, there is some scenery outside of the Great Wolf Lodge. Check in was fast and we had a ground level room with patio which made entry with all of our "bags and belongings" easy. Room was just fine, this was our third visit here, so we knew what the room was going to be like. Very quiet rooms. Fridge and microwave was nice as well. One thing though, room smelled kinda musty/wet upon arrival- but this was taken care of by us having a can of Oust spray with us(for our mini-van) and promptly cooking a bag of microwave butter popcorn! So, bring popcorn or spray just in case room smells stale. But this by no means caused or would have caused a problem! Next the kids promptly changed and off to the waterpark we went. Waterpark was not packed, so we had no lines at the tube waterslides! Temperature in there was great. The old $0.50 lockers in the waterpark are now changed to $5.00 a day through a $10.00 deposit, but what the hey. Waterpark closed at 9:00 on this Thursday evening, but no problem, kids were very tired anyway. Breakfast the next morning at Camp Critter Cafe was an awesome buffet. Waitress was very friendly and prompt. After breakfast, we took a little break(pool didn't open until 9:00) by going to the Northern Lights arcade. Kids had a good time in there for little money. An hour in there and it was back to the waterpark and some more of the same fun. We stayed until 10:30a.m. and then went back to the room and packed our stuff and checked out of the room and put some dry clothes in bags and took to the lockers in the pool area so we could use the park until we were ready to leave. We stayed until 2:00pm and then we were ready to head off to the next hotel for an evening kansas city royals game:) All in all, this was our best stay at this facility, I base this on the feedback the kids gave me as well as my wife and myselfs thoughts as well. Maybe it had to do with the Lodge not being as full as it was when we had presently visited there..?? Anyway, no worries when booking this facility. Enjoy.

Over priced, beds hard and bouncy, walls way to thin - games in the hallway for kids to play which cost $20 for the wands if your kids want to play btw. $20 to get in the water park per person, and if you lose your wrist band its an extra $20. its like a super tiny theme park in a Motel 6. your best bet, actually take the family to a theme park and stay at a motel 6, it would be cheaper. and you would most likey have more fun.

  • Disliked — cheap beds, thin walls, cheap room heaters/air con/ over priced

This was our third visit within a year. We can not go to Kansas City without staying at the Great Wolf Lodge. We have a four year old who loves all of the water park activities that is suited for his age and size.
The staff is always friendly and helpful. We went in October and they had a great haunted house set up in several of the meeting rooms. They gave each child a great goodie bag at the end of the haunted house. Our son loved it.
We do not eat at the lodge. There is the Legends Mall approximately 1/4 mile away. They have great restaurants and shops through out the outdoor mall. We recommend T-Rex (a Rain Forest Cafe restaurant with a dinosaur theme).
The Kansas Speedway is across the street, so try to avoid weekends where there is a large race scheduled, unless you are going to the race.
The Kansas City minor league baseball stadium is also nearby.
You are about a fifteen minute commute to the downtown KC restaurants and shops. Zona Rosa is another great outdoor mall that is nearby in North Kansas City MO.
The Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, Ohio is a nicer hotel and water park. The water park is bigger. We like the wrists bands there that allow to you to unlock your room door and have room charging ability so you do not need to carry money while at the water park.

We went to Great Wolf for spring break week with the kids. First off, the prices were hiked up for this premium travel time. We opted to stay in a KidKamp Suite and paid $420/nt (after taxes and hotel fees). Hotel a mad house during check-in and rooms not ready until 4pm.

Okay, please know that we are used to staying at really nice hotels so my opinion is based on that ... I'm sure some will completely disagree with me. The room was worth $180/nt tops. Our room overlooked a dirty, muddy patio outside (view of the parking lot), the adult bed was just a full size with the most uncomfortable mattress and the bathroom was very small and outdated. The room seemed pretty clean though (caulk around toilet peeling and horribly filthy but besides that okay). Please remember .. we paid $420 per nt.

The water park was a lot of fun. Even though it was packed at the resort we never had to wait in too long of a line for a slide. The lifeguards were very attentive, I was very impressed.

The arcade was so much fun. My family could have stayed in there the whole time. We had a lot of fun playing the games and collecting our tickets. We actually ended up with some nice prizes at the end.

MagiQuest was very enjoyable for the kids. What a great concept that was. Prices were very fair for the game. $14.99 for the wand then $9.99 to play for 4 days.

We will definitely go back again, the kids really loved it. It is in a great area surrounded by a ton of great restaurants - so you definitely do not have to feel obligated to eat at the hotel. I just will not pay premium prices the next time. I will go on an off week.

  • Liked — The arcade & the pool.
  • Disliked — The room.

We just stayed at Great Wolf Lodge, Kansas City for the first time last weekend. We had wanted to do this for years, but the price always got in the way. We finally decided to do it as a Spring Break treat for our kids, 10 and 7. I'll mark the highlights, postive and negative:
Check in: Awesome. Great service, even got a reasonably priced upgrade.
ROOM Initially, looked great. Kids have bunk beds, which they thought was cool. Queen bed looked more like a double. DH and I decided he would get the bed, I would pull out the hide-a-bed. Problems with room: sink faucet is installed backwards. hot is cold and cold is hot. Sink drains verrrrry slow. We ran out of toilet paper with none in the room as backup. We used the public restroom before checking out due to no TP. Pillows were lumpy, hide-a-bed was, well, a hide-a-bed. I was so exhausted from waterpark, it didn't matter. The linens on the bunk beds and hideabed were skimpy. Some blankets PLEASE! The climate control system was loud. For what you pay, I would like to see a little more attention to the maintenance of the room.
WATERPARK: Great!!! Lifeguards were some of the best I've seen. Very attentive, and alert. Water is clean and well balanced, chemical wise. Plenty of towels.
RESTARAUNT: Dinner buffet was a bit disappointing. Something out of a college or high school cafeteria. Breakfast though was great. The omelet chef is amazing!
OTHER: The arcade was fun, the lobby activities and story time was neat. A neat place for a Waterpark themed getaway. I just hope they evaluate the condition of the rooms soon.

My husband and I booked a 1 night stay here on Sunday in their family room. We decided to take a mini vacation with the family and have some fun. We have a 3yr old & a 10 month old. We had a great time!! Sure the place isn't the Taj Mahal or the Four Seasons but our kids LOVED IT! Get over the price...it's well worth it!

The room was HUGE and very clean from what I could see. The walls were thick so you couldn't hear your neighbor. Everything is within a short distance and the food was average. I say go across the street to Dave's BBQ if you're looking for good food. We had it on the way home. Sure they could have used another restaurant or two but hey like I said it's for kids. Order Pizza Hut the kids will love the delivery to their rooms.

We were originally told there was a 4pm check in but we arrived early and checked in at noon which was great. Yes there are mostly teenagers running the show but we had no issues with help or attitude. Everyone was very helpful and friendly.

The indoor water park was a blast! Free towels, free life jackets, $0.50 lockers for your stuff and changing areas. The pool was clean and the water was warm. It wasn't too crowded because we went on a Sunday/Monday in the winter. When we arrived on Saturday afternoon it wasn't crowded at all either. A few of the attractions within the park could use a good scrub but for the most part everything was very clean.

FYI....The book says the pool opens at 8:30am but they changed it to 9am!!! We had to go to the arcade for 1/2hour b4 the pool opened.

Storybook time at 8pm my son loved. Willey the wolf comes to greet the kids and take pictures. It was a nice perk. I would have liked to of seen an indoor jungle gym somewhere but the pool is open until 10pm and the arcade is great! By the way the arcade is CLEAN. Most arcade places the stuff is sticky and dirty this was clean.

I say if you're looking to have a great time with your kids take them here. It's not a spot you book for a week of activities but a day or two will be great! Get wet, act like a kid and have some fun! We'll be back!
