The tour was nice and great because there was just 4 people total on the first tour of a Saturday morning. I found the bottling portion to be the most interesting with 2 lines going.

The staff are very friendly and the place is small so you get to see everything. The tour is free and lasts about an hour, we even saw the bottling area in action. The tasting was very special, we were served with the appropriate glasses (not plastic like the other distilleries) and in a small room which made everything more intimate and professional. We got a chocolate and two shots, the very old barton and the barton 1792. There is no food or cafe here, but Bardstown is a minute away with plenty of quaint places to eat at.

We had never been to a distillery. We went to this one because the tour is free. Tours are every hour and we arrived about 10 minutes late. A lady said we could just join the tour that was in progress. We missed the bottling portion but didn't want to wait until the next tour. This is very industrial looking and most of it is closed in the summer. Our tour guide was very engaging and knowledgable. At the end you get to taste 2 types of bourbon and then finish w a bourbon ball (which were delicious!). The people were friendly and I didn't feel pressured to by a bottle. We had our kids w us, ages 13 & 15.

We haven't visited all the distilleries along the bourbon trail/craft bourbon trail yet, but Barton is our favorite tour so far. Other distilleries have them beat as far as beauty, but they but on a great tour/tasting. The first difference is there is no charge. One might think this would reflect the quality of the tour....definitely not!!! Because of the time of the year we visited, "distilling" wasn't going on, but still an A+ tour. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable. We were wowed with the tasting. Same guide walked us through the tasting process. Samples were followed up with a yummy bourbon ball. A great tour. There is walking and stairs involved with the tour.

Buildings not attractive. Seemed very industrial, with lots of trucks coming and going. High production level meant that watching bottling, boxing -- and especially shrink wrapping of several cases -- was fascinating (I like machines).
