This was the second and final of two distillery tours that we took with the other being Maker's Mark. I can recommend both and say to go to Barton if you only have time for one or Maker's Mark is too far away for you.

Our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. I was delighted to be able to see the still and got a good understanding for the process and difference to other spirit manufacture. The tasting at the end was good and generous too and we picked up a few Xmas presents in the gift shop at the end.

My partner and I have been to many alcohol breweries and distilleries in the past and thought that Barton was one of the best that we have visited. It is a good insight into the process and history.

“Best tour an bourbon tasting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2014

We just happen to hit the tour an bourbon tasting on our drive to my home town in Ohio. The tour was great, she gave us all the history of what happened during Prohibition times . All the bourbon was sealed an locked away for all those years. Not a lot of fancy frills but an honest working industry. Absolute best bourbon was here. We can't buy it here in California ... Sad to say. Makers Mark was closed by the time we arrived there, so missed it. We buy Makers Mark here in our home town an enjoy it very much. The tour is free an is very complete, we learn many things. Don,t miss it..

“Excellent distillery tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 January 2014

This is an industrial, active distillery and an informative tour. The grounds are not pretty or scenic, but the industrial look and feel improves the whole experience. It looks so real! The place is much bigger than it originally appears - much bigger than a 'craft' distillery. Our tour guide was a delightful and knowledgeable woman who explained every aspect of the distilling process clearly, and the tasting was delicious - two of their top-shelf bourbons. I especially enjoyed watching the large trucks deliver grain and haul away barrels. If you're in the Bardstown area and having the 'bourbon' experience, the Barton 1792 is a must. And right in Bardstown!

Not a very pleasing place to be at, went on a night latern tour, could not even take the tour because of this smell around the place that was so bad it turned your stomache, the works thought we were crazy for thinking it stunk, they apparently liked the smell, felt like i was im an alien town, the boys took the tour sAid it was very boring, another man said they had a sewage problem, the worst part of it all was this sickening smell that was strong enough to make a person sick.... Would not recommend this tour to anyone!!!

“A Real Distillery Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2013

If you want to see a slide show and just grab a few free sips, go to one of the "big name" bourbon "experiences". But if you want to really see/feel/touch how bourbon is made, and learn about the different flavor profiles, go to Barton. Here you see the whole thing, up-close-and-personal, from the grain testing, to the fermentation tanks, to the still, to the aging warehouse, to the bottling lines. You will touch the grains, smell the fermentation, taste the distillate liquor, sniff the aromas from the many different products being bottled (including things other than bourbon). But be forewarned that there is walking, stair climbing, hot environments, noise, etc. because you are in a working distillery.

And at the end you will get generous tastes of several products, with an explanation of how the different flavor profiles are developed and how they react on the palate. The staff are extremely personable and very knowledgable. And oh, by the way, it is all free!
