We could not believe how much was in this museum and how extensive the exhibit was. We were very impressed.

There are several civil war related buildings all run by the same folks. We started at the main museum next to the 1800's time period village.

The museum is an interesting collection of artifacts and history. The stories of the battles one can read in books or see in videos -- or review here on the informative posters about each campaign. But I have not seen this degree of physical items organized mostly by the individual who owned them. Interesting way to look at it instead of uniforms in one room, cannon balls in another, rifles in another, etc.

We also went through the mid-america museum and the womens civil war museum at the top of the hill. People there are friendly and helpful. We skipped the village but that might be interesting with kids.

The Western Theater was a much more important piece of the civil war than I believe many people know. Worth the visit. Admission was $7 per adult. No food available.

This museum has a lot of quality and interesting artifacts. However, they are not presented in the best way. Tags are lacking for some items, titles of exhibits are hand stenciled on walls, mannequins look old and ragged, info is presented on poster board. However, if you can look past this, there are wonderful and rare artifacts to see here. Probably not the best museum for small children, as there is a lot of reading and no hands-on activities. I wouldn't bother with the Civil War women's museum up the street...there are very few artifacts on display, and those that are, are not labeled or incorrectly labeled. Dresses from the wrong era are on display with no notes to this fact and I spied at least two photographs that were identified as the wrong person.

We had a little extra time before heading out of town Sunday morning. We found the museum in a guide at the hotel. The people at the museum were friendly and helpful. There was a lot to see. More museums in the area, too bad we did not have the extra time this trip.
