“Very nice hotel! Well worth the price!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2014

The hotel is a really great place to stay. The rooms are comfy and clean, we have a fridge and a microwave, there are two sinks (one inside the bathroom one out) so my mom and I could get ready at the same time, the pool is fantastic, the breakfast is delicious and there are hot items as well as cold items, so you wont go hungry, the grounds are just beautiful, its in a great location, and overall I have really enjoyed my stay!

My only downers would be that there is no elevator so lugging your bags to the second floor is a bit of a hassle, and there is no table in the room for my parents and I to play cards which we love doing on vacation. Also the Wifi isn't very strong and the beds are a little hard for my taste, however my dad likes a firmer mattress so its perfect for him. it all depends on your taste I guess, but I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Bardstown!

Room Tip: ask for the first floor, there is no elevator

We arrived at 3 PM and were told room was not ready. We came back at 4 PM which id check in time and room was still not ready. We finally got in at 4:45 due to staffing problems. No elevators so getting heavy luggage to room on 2nd floor was difficult. Room was not cleaned very well and was dusty. We were close to office and WIFI was so weak it was not usable. Rooms are very small compared to the Best Western standard so would not stay there again. Too expensive for the quality.

Room Tip: first floor an rear of building

We were very satisfied with our stay at the General Nelson Inn in Bardstown except for a few small problems. The furniture and beds were very satisfactory, however, the dust ruffle was caught up under the matress on one side which was a bit disconcerting as it was on the side visible as you stepped into the room. We enjoyed the breakfast but thought it would be helpful to have a small microware to warm and soften the rolls and pancakes. Having a restaurant next door, within walking distance, was a huge plus.

Easy access to Bluegrass Parkway and conveniently located within walking distance of downtown (although be careful there isn't much to do and shops close at 5 -- restaurants are open later). Clean grounds and facility. Beds were comfortable and there were lots of pillows. Very friendly staff who offered great restaurant suggestions (Mammy's Diner downtown - bourbon porks chops were delicious - and Stephen Foster Buffet Restaurant - a stone's throw away from the hotel). There is also a little convenience store within walking distance that has great pineapple ice cream! If you want a horse-drawn carriage ride - the carriage picks you up right at the hotel (a little pricey but fun), and there was a shuttle bus to the Stephen Foster Story if you have tickets. My group rode motorcycles, the parking lot is well lit and flat - and there is a canopy out front if you luck into a front facing room) The canopy came in handy on one of our night's stay because a severe storm came up. Very reasonable rates and a 10% AAA discount was offered. Due to weather, our departure was delayed by a day, and the employee at the front desk easily extended our stay for another night. If you are doing the Bourbon Trail, it is conveniently located to Heaven Hill, Makers Mark is about 25 miles away and Jim Beam is about 14 miles away. Our room was on the front side of the hotel - but I didn't notice a great deal of noise. We had one plumbing issue that was reported on the way to breakfast one morning, but it was resolved by the time we were finished eating, and staff made the extra effort to finding us to let us know the issue was taken care of. Beautiful facility for breakfast - plenty of room, and breakfast items varied from day to day -- sausage and eggs, biscuits and gravy, ham and polish sausage, pancakes, waffles, a variety of pastries, fruits and cereals. Even though our pets weren't with us on this trip, another plus is that it is a pet-friendly facility and they offered two separate areas for walking your pet, which was very clean. The only negative I have to say is that when I made reservations in February I had requested ground floor rooms, but we were given 2nd story rooms upon check-in. Other than that, it was a perfect stay. I would DEFINITELY stay there again.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Inn is older but well kept up and clean. It is centrally located, My grandchildren enjoyed the pool. We would definitely stay there again. The only problem would be if you had to stay on the 2nd floor and had a problem with stairs.

Caring staff, good food, room was ok and clean. We stayed four nights for the Stephen Foster Musical and bourbon tour. The room was clean but the carpet needed a little cleaning. The breakfast in the morning was excellent. The staff was very helpful also.

The beds were very comfortable. Nice, friendly check in/out employee. The only thing was the plunger in the sink would not hold water. That didn't bother me much but it will cost the hotel a high water bill. Would stay there again.
