“Descent Motel for the Price”
Reviewed 4 June 2012

This motel is cheaper than the others in the area, which are around $30 higher. The beds were fine. There were three pillows to choose from (soft to firm). Our bed was a King, as requested. It was comfortable. We had a fridge and a microwave. There are several restaurants in the area like Cracker Barrel. Mammoth caves is close by. For a one night stop, it was the best deal for our money.

Booked in advance on Expedia - good rates. Basic accommodation but clean and comfortable and basic breakfast included in the price. Be warned if you have heavy case. We were on upstairs and there wasn't an elevator so we had to carry heavy cases up the stairs.

We arrived at the motel just one step ahead of a very nasty tornado outbreak. The desk clerk gave us an "inside" room, told us the best place to park (to minimize hail damage if there was any hail), and was otherwise very helpful.

The room was quite spacious, with good beds, plenty of room for our luggage, and a fridge.

This Super 8 is clearly an older motel. It's not what I would call renovated in any way, at least not in the room we occupied.

Since it's early in the tourist season, we took a chance and showed up at the front desk vs. making an advance reservation.

The first floor room we had was quite spacious and had almost everything we wanted, save for a desk. There was a comfortable king bed, small table and chairs, flat screen TV (without HD service, so not so nice), fridge & microwave and ironing board. Everything was old, the room smelled a bit musty...and the alarm clock was blinking as if the power had gone off some time in the past. A large power strip sat next to one of the nightstands . The wifi was a bit weak, but usable and password-secured.

The spacious vanity was outside of the bathroom. The bathroom door was large enough to let a wheelchair through, but the bathroom area too small for one. The commode was the low, older style and had something not-so-nice around its base. As I so frequently see, the bathroom tile grout was quite dirty. The shower head barely did its job.

Not far away to the north of the hotel, is a railroad track that is apparently well-used. It's not terribly loud but if you're sensitive to noise it might be a good idea to take a room on the south side. Better still, on the southeast side to avoid road noise as well. We could see light around the edges of the door and underneath, which made the outdoor sounds louder. We left the fan running to help us sleep. The bed was comfortable, so I did sleep well.

Breakfast was served in a room near the front lobby, and consisted of very basic items, mainly bread, cereal, juice and previously-frozen items like doughnuts, pre-packaged sausage biscuits (not bad, but also not refrigerated while sitting on the counter). There was a juice dispenser with 3 choices. The coffee was actually good, both decaf and regular.

All in all, the motel was OK but no better than that. Actually somewhat below average in my book, but certainly not bad enough to call poor in my rating.

Room Tip: Southeast side...to avoid noise.
