We chose to stay at RRC because I had heard great things about the pool. We were not disappointed and for much of the three days that we were there had the thing to ourselves. My kids love swimming and we love lazing by the pool. This was therefore perfect. A great big meandering pool, right outside our lake view villa on stilts with stunning views of the lake. The pool manager - George was wonderful, attentive and great with the kids. He was on hand to help and you could see he wanted people to enjoy his pool. We certainly did George... And thanks!
The service by the pool was good considering no-one was on duty at the pool bar. A special thanks to Rajesh, who was on hand on our second day to serve drinks during the course of a very hot and cloudless day :)
After eating out for much of our 3 week holiday, we made the conscious decision to eat in each night. Whilst the food was tasty, the variety was limited. I was disappointed not to be able to eat some tandoori chicken before I left India! On one evening my wife and I fancied some nachos. This was being served in the Mexican restaurant but they said they could not provide this in the room. Why? This is where the resort fell down in terms of personalisation and the clear difference between 4 and 5 stars. Also apart from seeing Ranjeet, front desk manager on the first day, who was very good, we had little contact with the management which I thought was very disappointing. Again perhaps the difference between 4 and 5 stars. There was a chap sat at the duty managers desk, but he obviously did not feel the need to interact with any of his guests!!!!

So all in all, would we go to the resort again. Yes, absolutely! But 90% of that decision is based on the wonderful pool and the service provided by some particularly Rajesh and George.

Dear Hawks,

Namaskaram ! We thank you for taking your time out to write an excellent review about the resort. I have passed on your compliments to the team. We hope to see you back at the resort again.

I have passed on your comments to George and Rajesh.

Unfortunately Tandoori Chicken is not in our menu and to prepare the dish it takes hours, as the process involves leaving the chicken to soak in the marination for a couple of hours. I have have also taken on your comment about Mexican dishes not being served in room.

We enjoyed our time at the Ramada. Breakfast every morning was yummy, we ate at the restaurant only one night for dinner, and the food was very good then as well. The staff are very friendly. The pool was a great way to spend an afternoon. I would stay at this property again.

A sad beginning...when you get to know the housekeeping take 40 mins+ to get you 2 coffee mugs to your room. Not to forget...the 'iceberg room'....sheer torture...and you stand in front of the maintenance dept. and get it fixed by opening the trap door and you get to know that the valve is choked. Indeed less of a holiday and getting the rooms AMC at my own expense. Brilliant indeed!!! Sad to see Ramada as a brand doing this...

Room Tip: A sincere advice....choose another option....it would save you money and a hassle free trip to enjoy...

Dear Guest,

Namaskaram !

We thank you for taking your time out for writing a review about the resort.

I apologise for the delay in giving coffee mugs to your room in time. The mug was delivered within 15 mts. As this is a resort and very spread out, sometimes we might not be able to adhere to the time specifications , especially during heavy rains.

Unfortunately the actuator valve in your room had malfunctioned, and was stuck at full open position. It took the maintenance person some time to rectify it as it was inside the ceiling of the room.

Even though it is very rare for an actuator valve to malfunction, you were put to discomfort and I do apologise for it.

Ramada lived up to every aspect of our very short stay..we checked in late night & departed next day noon as rooms were fully booked. The room facing the pool is really like the pictures you see on-line, just better with the breeze & lake flowing water!
Had breakfast at hotel. It had good spread & waiters were very attentive & polite.Walked around the compound & enjoyed the little pockets of area to unwind in garden. Also the pool is really nice as each cottage has its own little area to access it...but didn have time to enjoy a dip in it
Will look forward to a longer stay again ...

Room Tip: Pool facing cottages are best...

This is definitely the best resort in Kochi. Masterclass resort. Stunning villas with a breath taking view. Tasteful room decorations. Laggon pool cutting across right in front of the villas. It's the ultimate destination in Kochi to relax for a weekend. All the 3 meal buffets are delicious. There is a really good variety of dishes. Pleasant staff. Good place to beat the heat..!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Feel the silence of the shores Ramada Resort is a poem. Written on the banks of a tranquil lake. You find the island of silence just 17 km from Kochi, Kerala's metropolis, and 2 km from a busy national highway. The Kumbalam backwaters is part of the famed Vembanad Lake. As the gates open, a sudden change in landscape, a riot of greenery, and silence, greet you. A harmonious mix of exhibitive desert trees and the natural flora of Kerala instil in you the same feeling you experience while watching your child take its first steps: excitement! Pass through the front office that exudes the Keralan hospitality, laced with the professionalism of Ramada, and walk into one of those 24 pool-facing villas. The long walk itself is a refreshing change, compared with boxing oneself into the usual elevator. The greenery soothes the nerves of even a weary traveller. You have started experiencing the space. And silence. Oh! Its space everywhere. Spread across 7 acres of land, Ramada Resort has only 42 living spaces. You would perhaps enjoy the largest per capita space on a resort in Kerala! Before stepping into your room, you find the ground floor is just floor, and not a room! Your kids may want to stay back and play. Let them, and you allow yourself into your cottage. In the super luxury of the room, you will come across the best amenities. Open the glass door and step into the balcony. The meandering pool stretches itself to 110 metres in front of you. Its waters almost touch the lake, which touches the eastern horizon for sure. The enormous expanse of the backwater, lined with coconut trees, will make you feel the thrill of floating freely on a ship's deck, a la Jack and Rose. It's a play of water, mixed with serenity. You feel engulfed by infinity. Almost. In the morning, the sun rising from across the waters will greet you on the balcony. You may feel like doing a sun-salutation, the most beneficial yoga posture. The fisherman in his canoe rowing against the myriad hues of morning sun will be a picture postcard scene that reminds you of the painting competition in your school days. In the evening, the reflections of the setting sun on the serene waters would take you to the empire of silence. The water, layers and layers of it, may tempt you to try some water therapy. Walk into the spa, Kerala's largest. It offers more than 25 varieties of herbal and western massages. Treat yourself to foot reflexology and leave the seat with every organ in your body relaxed. Or try Thai massage. Or Balinese. Treat your senses to the aroma of freshly fried seafood. With your stomach directing you towards the restaurant, the turn in the corridor next to it opens up suddenly into an empty expanse of greenery. The deja vu feeling of having one's own extra space suddenly overpowers the unassuming traveller. It takes some time to adjust to this heavenly feeling and finally when lunch is served, you realise even time has no boundaries in this part of the world and stands still. ... more   less
