...room for improvement.

We stayed here this week for 3 nights and for most part enjoyed our stay.

Pros:

Location - great views over golf courses, enjoyed watching the sun set and rise from our balcony. Hotel is at the end of a very long drive way.

Checking In - the reception area is light and airy with beautiful light fittings and marble floors. The check in staff were friendly and helpful.

Room - our room was big, light and airy. The bed was huge and comfy and the balcony with the great views made our stay. Everything was clean as you would expect.

Food - although we didn't eat in the restaurant we did have room service twice and each time the food was gorgeous. Loved their triple cooked chips.

Staff - Every member of staff we encountered were friendly, always had smiles on their faces. A credit to the hotel.

Cons:

Location of Room - we were in a room which was miles away from reception and other amenities. I have mobility problems and the long walk meant we didn't make the most of the facilities. The carpet in the very long corridor actually made me dizzy.

Room - there were no tumblers in the bathroom for rinsing after cleaning ones teeth, something which is provided in the basic of hotels. There was a cigarette burn (hole) in the voile, quite noticeable so unsure why this wasn't changed. The valance around the bed base was stained in places as was one of the cushions.

Smoking - I know the hotel states it's a non smoking one, however I'm not sure this rule relates to smoking on balconies. Our last night wasn't ruined as such, however our neighbours were constantly smoking on their balcony which not only smelt when I was sat outside but the smoke was drifting into our room as well. This resulted in us not only going inside to sit down but also closing the door to keep the smoke out. Considering we were making the most of the sunny weather this week, I found this to be disappointing. We enjoyed the use of the balcony, however I think privacy screens need to be put in place.

Breakfast in Rooms - It appears that breakfast cannot be taken in your room. We often enjoy breakfast in our room rather than a mass free for all in the restaurant.

No Mini Bar - as the title suggest, no mini bar.

Overall we had a great stay and found the cost to be reasonable as it included breakfast. We would recommend the East Sussex National and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the higher floor but close to reception.

Thank you so much for commenting on both the pros and cons of the facilities.

Breakfast is served in all our rooms and i do apologise if ths wasnt very clear, yes we do operate a non smoking hotel and please should this happen again i ask that you contact reception and ask to speak to the duty manager.

I do hope that you visit us again soon and please mention on booking your mobility problems and I am positive we will be able to accommodate you closer to the reception area.

Kind Regards

This hotel and its surrounding, stunning countryside are a must for anyone wanting to retreat from the hustle and bustle of noisy, polluted city life. The spaciousness is what struck us most- a spacious foyer and seating spaces, spacious rooms, spacious balconies overlooking spacious, stunny natural beauty-this feeling of being able to breathe. Staff also gave us ample space to be with ourselves while simultaneously being incredibly helpful, polite and genuinely friendly. Christine on the reception desk was particularly helpful with anything we needed and her warm and friendly nature made our stay all the more pleasant. The young bar and breakfast staff were also so amenable - nothing was too much trouble for them.

The presence of a spa on site is a big plus for this hotel. Guests have the use of the swimming pool, sauna, steam room and brilliant jacuzzi and can spend all day on the comfortable lounge deck chairs at the side of the pool, reading, relaxing, talking, resting. We were given clean, warm towels to use and, again, the helpful staff made this experience so enjoyable. A wide range of therapies can also be booked at an additonal charge.

The food in both the restaurant and the bar area was of a very high standard and the room service option was very welcome when we wanted to be quiet and alone.

Our Club room was spacious and clean and the balcony provided a welcome sitting space to sip afternoon tea while drinking in the magnificant views.

All in all, we felt totally rested from this three day break - thank you! We will be back!!

Room Tip: Choose the larger rooms-Club- and make sure you get a larger balcony. The additional space makes all...

Picked because of its location near to the bluebell railway, where we had a golden arrow charter train booked, but would recommend as an event venue on its own merit. Both bar and event food were very good and the two lunch buffets we had were excellent . The breakfast was ok but nothing special . Our event coordinator , the receptionists and the lady in charge of the restaurant are worthy of a mention as they really did go the extra mile but all staff were pleasant and attentive .
I am told the golf coarse is good as is the spa and pool .The hotel copped admirably with 81 of us , the England Ladies football team and a very large wedding in their main function room .
Our only complaint was some of the rooms were serviced late or not at all on the Saturday .
All rooms were clean modern and spacious but I would recommend the upper floors if possible
also book any golf or spa treatments in advance.

Room Tip: it is a long haul from reception to higher number rooms and the upper floors have a better outlook

Although we booked the hotel and a meal and paid for it when we wanted to book rounds of golf and spa treatments we were very disappointed. Paid for 2 rounds of golf with the deal but would have had to wait until 2pm on Sunday for the 2nd round . No spa treatments available for the whole weekend ??? Great location ,rooms, really comfortable beds and plenty of food. Bar lacked music . Lorraine at breakfast was amazing which put the blonde woman to shame who had an attitude and hadn't even bothered to iron her uniform shirt . I can't believe she was allowed to work like this? Check out on Sunday 11am too early especially if you want to get up later have breakfast and use the spa. Golf course was excellent.

Room Tip: Try to get a room close to reception as it's a long walk

We visited the hotel for a long weekend break, and were impressed with the whole experience. The lobby is large, open, and has the feel of a high spec resort. The bar, and restaurant would make a great location for weddings, and events, and the rooms were equally as spacious and comfortable. The service was friendly and personal and although you are aware of the golf course environment, it is not the overriding focus. The pool and spa round out this Sussex gem that is well worth a visit.

Massive modern hotel with good facilities. Could have been impersonal but saved by very friendly staff such as Rebecca on reception. A little understaffed at times maybe. Big comfortable well appointed rooms. Well set up for golfers.
