My experience in Suly had been so wonderful and homey, I couldn't exactly say bye bye to the place and Ubud as I initially planned out my trip for two days; two days turned into five days, and even that didn't seem long enough.
A room that I stayed in was very well kept and clean, and comfortable.
Yoga classes every morning was wonderful; the space it was held was open studio with fresh morning breeze, peaceful rice field views and sunrise.
Lounging around pools seemed like a perfect activity to do after delicious, simple and healthy meal from restaurants.
All the staffs especially the students, I ADORE! They were very helpful, genuinely pleasant and warm, which was big PLUS point for me.
Will I go back there? Absolutely!

Lovely hotel, big rooms, marble floors.
Rooms are far enough from the road, it’s very nice to relax on huge balcony in the evening.
Marvellous Garden, looks like real jungle with statues.
Rice field view, traditional Kecak dance for guest, pleasant and polite staff, good breakfast.
I wish we could stay another two or three days in such a cozy place.
Ps. UBUD is very nice town.

I really wanted to like Suly. It supports underprivileged children access education and employment and it certainly sounded peaceful and interesting. I booked in advance and paid in full for 7 days in what was advertised as a Garden View delux villa for a family of 4. When we arrived, we discovered (eventually and not until the next day) that the room we had booked had been double booked, would remain so for the next 10 days, and with no explanation and even with a statement that we were being upgraded to a more expensive room (!!) we were instead given two seperate rooms in a recently built ubiquitous 4 storey Western style building that at that stage was not even mentioned on the Suly website.

It took until the next day to get an acknowledgement that we had not received what we had paid for. By then our experience of Suly was that it was simply depressing. Poorly maintained buildings, disorganised and not in a Bali way - just disorganised - sparse gardens, a woeful spa, a ridiculously expensive restaurant and lots of other guests who had also ended up in rooms that were not what they had paid for or booked. The modern 4 storey building feels like a dormitory in a scout camp, and they have a real problem with sewerage. For those with any mobility restrictions, be aware that the 4 storey building has no lift. The children are delightful and keen to assist but had little idea about what they were doing. We were told that new management had been brought in to improve Suly - they certainly need it.

It is a good half hour trip by car in medium traffic into Ubud, and the location is not attractive for just meandering around streets and rice fields. But yes, if all you want is to see rice fields, then until the next development goes up, you will definitely see rice fields from most parts of the hotel.

We were so disillusioned we left after one night. So pleased we did. While I appreciate that they refunded some of the money we had paid (after a few days), and I hope Suly succeeds, I will not be going back.

I guess if you are awarded with a room in the old buildings, you'll like this hotel a lot. But most of the rooms are in a new building, not so cozy, with no elevator (and four floors).

The worst thing is the noise. You'll hear cocks from 5AM in advance, but some people doesn't mind about this...BUT in a lot of rooms you can hear machines working all night long, and not just the typical AC, but also pressure pumps really noisy and annoying.

The next unacceptable thing is the toilet. It's really small and unfinished, with no tiling. It smells a a lot... stinks.

Breakfast is not bad, but there isn't a lot of variety. I'm sorry to say but the stuff is very unprofessional... actually that could be because most of them are in fact... KIDS!!! Yeah, sadly that's legal in Indonesia...

The hotel is far from the centre of Ubud. There supposed to be a shuttle bus, but just three per day... you'll finally pay a taxi... but not in the night, impossible to find, so you'll be trapped there.

Even though, if you get the discount you deserve (we paid 45$) is not the worst option in Ubud. The pool and the surrounding are really nice.

Suly Resort is a five stars hotel in our heart, we had a wonderful stay a couple days staying in room with a rice paddies view and we got chance to see Mount Agung as well in the morning, the gardens and swimming pool were so beautiful, the services were great, friendly and helpful young staff. The staff told me that they got free school and this hotel is a place for them to practice their skills as humanity development, so impressed to hear that hopefully they may get a good job and give a living to their poor family in the village. Thank you so much and we would love coming again to stay!

This is a training school for local underprivileged children. Yes, your stay will be contributing to a worthy cause, perhaps that alone will encourage your booking. However, for someone looking for relaxation and privacy, this is not the place for you. The staff organise everything in a great way, but there are too many of them and there is LOTS of teenage chatter and singing early in the morning and throughout the day. I used the spa, where a young lady awkwardly watched me undress and then proceed to practise her English during my relaxing massage (which it was not).
The resort itself is in a beautiful setting, yet rice fields mean a lot of flies, also typically Ubud does not enjoy the good weather of the Balinese beaches as frequently. The pool is not heated, and mostly freezing cold (no one used it during my stay) and the second pool was out of use and looking very murky.
I chose to stay here even though the "resort" was miles out of Ubud centre as another reviewer had said there was a free taxi shuttle. It's worth noting that this does not apply to Balinese holidays (where you are marooned for a day without transport, restaurant or cafe) and the taxis do not go into town early enough to catch the coach tours (that leave at 8:30 am). Drivers will offer you tour services but won't encourage other guests to join or organise a whole tour, prices should be negotiated, as they will ask you for as much as they dare.
I picked this hotel as it was a mere $50 for a spa resort! I realised this was hugely overpriced and left early (check cancellation terms!!) The only hotel I have ever left early!
